Just like it says the love letters being responsible for bringing the hero and heroine together in the end for their HEA. Thanks for having me as your guest, Brandé. A blurb about me would say, married to her high school sweetheart, Beth lives on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia surrounded by her children, grandbabies, and assorted animals. An avid gardener, her love of herbs and heirloom plants figures into her work. The rich history of Virginia, the Native Americans and the people who journeyed here from far beyond her borders are at the heart of Beth’s inspiration. In addition to American settings, she also writes historical and time travel romances set in the British Isles. And self-published a nonfiction book about country life, Shenandoah Watercolors. 2. Can you tell us a little about your newest release Into The Lion's Heart that isn't in the blurb?
The hero of INTO THE LION’S HEART, Captain Dalton Evans was inspired by ‘bad boy’ Captain Vaughan in my Revolutionary War novel, ENEMY OF THE KING. Although by the end of that novel, Vaughan had been humbled. I found his multifaceted character intriguing.
3. What was your inspiration behind the creation of Into The Lion's Heart?
I’m drawn to Georgian England and the time of the French Revolution, love The Scarlet Pimpernel and the Poldark series, books and films both. I’d originally intended to follow Captain Vaughan back to England after his stint in the American Revolution and make this his story, but he isn’t finished in America yet and has a story there I’m at work on, so I envisioned a new hero loosely based on him. The heroine of INTO THE LION’S HEART is an Émigré fleeing the revolution. The explosion of the French Revolution is the backdrop of the story.
4. What was your favorite scene to write in Into The Lion's Heart?
The stormy sea when Captain Dalton Evans rescues the heroine from the sinking ship. And later, the dance scene at his manor house. There were many I enjoyed. And I did mega research for this story.
5. What accent is sure to make you swoon?
I love accents from the British Isles. I’m not big on ‘Jersey.’
6. What was the most challenging thing you’ve done in the name of research that might have been out of your comfort zone?
Touring a local cavern for a scene in my Native American historical romance, THROUGH THE FIRE. The Shenandoah Valley is full of limestone chambers deep within the earth, and I’m claustrophobic. I stuck to the guide like a border collie and when he turned out the lights to demonstrate how it would’ve been in earlier days when your candle blew out and you had to wait in pitch blackness until the next group came through, I wanted to scream. The woman behind me whispered, ‘this is hell.’ I agreed, but my daughter loved it and wanted to go on a second tour of the cavern. No way!
