Today I have author T.Harrison on Book Junkie! She is here to celebrate her release of IN HER CLOSET! Please give her a warm welcome and enjoy the interview and don't forget to enter the contest to win a KINDLE!!!
I am a fly on your wall today, what would I see in the day of T. Harrison's ?
I’m a mom of two smallish men, one 13 and the other 9, so the first thing I do in the morning is get them up and ready for school. I get them to school by 7:30 am and after that I usually walk the biggish pup for about an hour.
When I get home, I put on a pot of coffee--yes, a pot and I drink it all. They have yet to invent a way to mainline caffeine so until they do, I must ingest it as quickly as possible in 12 oz doses.
After the coffee has brewed (and I’ve procrastinated by checking my email, twitter, facebook and blogger) I sit behind my desk and write. I usually get about six to seven hours in before the kids get home. I’m more productive when the house is quiet. There really isn’t any time afterschool as both the smallish men have busy afterschool schedules and the day tends to sped toward bedtime like it’s on meth.
Can you tell us a little about your newest release In Her Closet that isn't in the blurb?
If you’re looking for a typical romance or heroine you won’t find it in In Her Closet. My main character, Yves Santiago is brash, confrontational and flawed and she may not necessarily be everyone’s cup of tea. But if you’re open to untraditional romances, flawed heroines and alpha heroes that can make the baddest chick straighten up her act then In Her Closet is for you!
I really enjoyed the dialogue in the scenes between Yves and her best friend Ava. Ava is funny and feisty and isn’t afraid to put Yves in her place.
What was the most challenging thing you’ve done in the name of research that might have been out of your comfort zone?
My stories are mostly character driven so they rarely require more than a Google search. Oh the wonders of technology!
What do you qualities are a must when creating your hero?
My hero checklist goes a little something like this:
Tall, dark and handsome
Loving
Romantic
Emotionally available
Loyal
And of course he must be sexy and be able to handle his business in the bedroom, if you know what I’m saying *wink*
Did you ever draw your characters from the personalities in your life?
Like Dave Chappelle, I plead da fif.
What are you currently working on?
Right now I’m editing Having it Both ways, another erotic novel that will round out the Yves Santiago Stories. After that, I plan to start a paranormal.
What is the worst pick-up line a man ever used on you, and did it work?
Him: “You like to work out, huh?”
Me: *glancing down at my sweaty t-shirt and running shoes* “Uh, yeah.”
Would this line have worked on anyone?
If you could trade places with one of your characters, would you want to?
Nah, my life is pretty awesome right now and honestly, most of my characters have too many issues.
What accent is guaranteed to make you do naughty things?
Probably French or Spanish but, I’ve been known to swoon over an Irishmen. (Jonathan Rhys Meyers, need I say more?
What was the first romance book you read and how did it effect you?
Danielle Steel’s Star. I read it in middle school and remember loving that book though I’ve never read any of Steel’s books since.
If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
What type of romance stories are you particularly tired of reading?
Fresh off of a night of anonymous sex we join Yves Santiago on the curb for a cigarette. Yves is a self-proclaimed slut who vows to live her life as carelessly as a man and make no apologies for any of it--though her meddling mother and ex-fiancĂ© seem intent on making it difficult for her to do so. She’s determined to avoid anything that looks even remotely like love and escapes most encounters with her heart and her pride intact.
Then she meets Elijah Weinstein…
Elijah saunters in like a dream proclaiming to be the next great love of her life--a declaration that Yves finds ridiculous, though it doesn't make him any less enticing. With his mossy green eyes, broad, sun-kissed shoulders and a mouth so sensual that it should have an NC-17 rating, Elijah Weinstein is damn near irresistible. She willingly accepts his challenge, certain she will be able to get what she wants without relinquishing her heart.
EXCERPT
I dress casually for my evening at the Erotic Literary Salon. I’m excited about this meeting with Elijah Weinstein but, I don’t want to make too big a deal of it. I don’t believe in fairy tales, romantic or otherwise, so I’m always careful not to get my hopes too high. So in my favorite Bob Marley t-shirt and yummy ripped jeans, I sit down at my usual table and settle in to listen to the poets and wordsmiths until it’s my turn to take the stage. I have no idea what Elijah Weinstein looks like. He told me that he would be wearing a green polo shirt. I scan the room but, I don’t see a Jewish guy in a green polo shirt. He’s late or maybe he just changed his mind all together.
“Now calling the poet Yves Santiago.”
I wipe my sweaty hands on my jeans and make my way to the stage. Reading my poetry in front of a crowd still makes me nervous even though I’ve been doing it for years.
“Good evening,” My voice bounces off the back wall and I hate the way it sounds when it makes its way back to me. Any other time I fancy that it sounds deep and sultry but, up here it sounds high and nervous.
“This is more of a ramble than a poem. I call it ‘Sleek and Tawny’.”
I clear my throat, close my eyes and take a deep cleansing breath.
“She’s lost all the parts of her that were pretty.
Her shine and nubile beauty wore off long ago.
Rubbed off--rubbed raw by men.
She’s nothing sweet anymore.
She’s something feral,
something wild.
Sleek and tawny, un animal.
Something constantly in search of something--
someone to devour.
She sees her prey and when he passes her way
the scent of him enlivens her.
She pursues him because in this moment, he
is what she needs.
What she hungers for.
That tender morsel she draws across her teeth
hungrily…
But when her passion is spent
she remains discontent
until a hint of some other succulent scent
rattles her cage.”
I open my eyes. A wave of satisfaction washes over me from the appreciative smiles of the crowd. “Thank you,” I murmur, backing away from the microphone to a chorus of whoops and applause.
A man approaches me as I walk back to my table. Mmm, tasty, I think as he offers me a smile.
“Yves Santiago?”
“Yes?”
“I’m Elijah Weinstein.”
I can barely able to keep my mouth from dropping open. This is Elijah Weinstein? Elijah Weinstein is gorgeous. Fuck gorgeous. He is damn fine. He reaches for my hand and shakes it, holding on for far longer than is necessary for a greeting. Our hands sway gently between us--a frizzle of friction forming between our palms.
“Nice to meet you,” I sigh, trying my best to keep from licking my lips.

May 30, 2011 4:07 PMGood luck with your book.
What a great post! I think the romance books that I am tired of the most is paranormals, seems like everyone got on that band wagon and that is mostly what you found for a while. I am sorry to say I have never read your books before but this one sounds really good. Will start looking for it. Take care or your little men they will grow up to be big men before you know it. My little man is twenty one now so I know how fast they grow up.

I hate heroines that are too stupid to live. I am tired of the heroine that is "the perfect fit, like she is his missing piece". I like my heroines a little more real than that. And, women who are tiny and dainty are very nerve wracking!

Great interview. I like the blurb and excerpt for In Her Closet..sounds interesting...I love how we've gone from the bad boy being the appeal to the bad girl...lol...and I have to agree with Anna who said it's nice to see a cover model who is more realistic size wise....

May 30, 2011 11:23 PMYour description of Yves was so insightful because I haven't read too many heroines that would fit into that category.

I love it when I find an author that I know I will enjoy the book. I so get tire of the run of the mill paranormal stories, but love those that are unique and different.
May 31, 2011 5:12 PMBut I love the description of Yves. she's bold and sure of what she "thinks" she wants, and I have a feeling that that is just the beginning., I put your book on top of my "gotta have new author for me list". I can't wait to read it!
Thank you for sharing about yourself & the excerpt...*S*
Love teh cover!

I'm more into mysteries lately instead of romance, maybe it's my age thing coming into play! Thanks for the chance to win, as I do love to read.
June 3, 2011 9:59 PMI like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, too. Your book sounds like a good read. thanks for the giveaway

Congratulations on the release of In Her Closet. I hope you have been having fun with your blog tour!
June 3, 2011 11:37 PMI would have to say that I'm pretty burned out on vampire romance - which is not to say that it's not well written at all. I've recently started to 'broaden my horizons' with respect to the types of books I read - sort of a way to prevent burnout!
Thanks for the chance to win!

Wow talk about one of the worst pick up lines ...this book sounds awesome. Thanks for the chance to win!
June 4, 2011 12:41 AMbookflamereviews@gmail.com
Congrats on the new book and great interview.
June 4, 2011 5:04 AMI love that you wouldn't trade places with a character. The grass always seams greener on the other side but the reality is that life is pretty ok when you think about what others are going through.
As to the question I'll be honest I'm not a big romance reader *ducks* mostly because I find them too mushy I guess ones that don't have more sexy time in it. The conversational aspect bothers me a lot, what I mean is that the way people speak in these books tends not to be how people speak to each other in real life.
@Anne
June 4, 2011 8:13 AMThere is one secondary character with an accent. It's Jamaican :)
great interview. can't say there is any particular type of romance I'm currently tired of -- I switch around btwn periods, troupes, style so as avoid that :)
June 4, 2011 9:50 AMgamistress66 (at) aol (dot) com
Wow! Great giveaway!
June 4, 2011 10:24 AMTo answer your question, I'm over the stories that involve family members falling in love with other family members spouses. It really creeps me out. I wish authors stayed away from that storyline.
Congrats on new release!! The cover is hot!!
June 4, 2011 12:13 PMThis book looks amazing :D Congratulations on its release! & Thanks for the contest.

I loved the interview and finding out more about you. Knowing more about you helps me to enjoy your stories even more!
June 4, 2011 8:09 PMAs my husband said there nothing that's ever been written that I don't enjoy reading As far as he's concerned if the only thing around to read is a matchbook cover than I'd read it!
The one up-side for him is I also read all the books he reads which are definately not romance which I must admit are my favorite. I think that turnaround is fair play but after 41 years still haven't convinced him to read romance though I did get him away for history books with a few mysteries.
Great contest and thanks for the opportunity to win a Kindle!
This sounds like an excellent book! I plan on reading this one for sure. It was so nice to find out more about T. Harrison! Thanks for the chance to win a Kindle!
