Review & Giveaway: NOTORIOUS PLEASURES by Elizabeth Hoyt

NOTORIOUS PLEASURES is the second book in the Maiden Lane Series by Elizabeth Hoyt and since most Historical Romance fans are a glutton for a sexy rake who finds himself falling in love and giving up his wicked ways this is a can't miss. Well, as long as he keeps his wicked ways with his true lady love. Sexy and wanton both characters will find their lives filled with mystery and suspense that will surprise you.

I believe without this suspense at times the story would fall flat, but I have to say that looking back the love story and Griffin's jealousy and angst really was a happy balance with the Lady Hero Batten.

3 1/2 Stars

Their lives were perfect . . .
Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancé. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn't bother Hero. Until she meets his notorious brother . . .
Until they met each other.
Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading, is far from perfect - and he likes it that way. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all of London knows he engages in the worst sorts of drunken revelry at night. Hero takes an instant dislike to him, and Griffin thinks that Hero, with her charities and faultless manners, is much too impeccable for society, let alone his brother. Yet their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks desire - desire that causes their carefully constructed worlds to come tumbling down. As Hero's wedding nears, and Griffin's enemies lay plans to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect people find perfect true love?

Kathleen Woodiwiss' The Wolf and the Dove is certainly one of my all time favorites. It was a major "comfort" read for years to the point that I pretty much know all the little twist and turns, highlights & lowlights by heart that I haven't read it in years -- at least not using the book ;)

My all-time fav as a teenager (although it's completely out of fashion now because it's a major bodice ripper) was Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers. Back in the 70's I don't know how many times I read and reread that book.

My favorite is the long forgotten masterpiece "Forever Amber". I recall my mother "tsking" about that book:it was consider obscene when it was first published in 1943 by a housewife whose husband was away at was.

Of course, it's almost puritanical by today's standards. And Kathleen Winsor's research was impeccable and accurate. Love it.

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
