Guest Author Elaine Hopper

Today I am thrilled to have Guest Author Elaine Hopper here at Book Junkie.
I had the opportunity to read and write a review of Always a Bridesmaid, an extremely emotional and sensual read. If you haven't read before, then check out my review HERE !
Please give Elaine a warm welcome as she talks a little about staying true to yourself!

Usher is on American Idol tonight and he’s critiquing the contestants. He just said when counseling Didi Benami who is singing “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” which is one of my all time favorite songs, “The audience appreciates honesty.” He was speaking of Didi’s high emotions about the song which is a very emotional song by the way. Tears were falling from her eyes. She was shaking.

This is true about writing as well. As a reader, as a writer, I connect to stories where the emotion is honest. Honest emotion isn’t over the top or dramatic. It’s about being real, about striking a chord.

As I wrote “Always A Bridesmaid”, parts made me tear up. I imagined myself in that situation. I sympathized with the heroine. When I reread those sections, they still make me tear up.

Sorrow and tears aren’t the only emotions that count. If the story is a comedy and it makes you smile or better yet, if it makes you chuckle, it’s hitting an honest emotion. How many times have you been scared, even freaked out by a Stephen King story? My youngest son leaves the room when we turn on a Stephen King movie.
When writing a story, it’s important to connect to your emotions, to write from your heart. Get into the zone, feel what you’re writing about.
Music often helps me to get into the zone. So does calling on past experiences or cuddling with my husband.
Be true to yourself. Don’t try to be someone else. Tell your story your way.

The Socialite Look: How to Dress Like You Have a Trust Fund Even If You Don't

You know the type: It's raining, or 3 am, or the middle of yoga class and this woman looks crisp, pulled together, ready for her close-up. Her hair is freshly blown-out, her jewelry is tasteful Cartier. Linen wouldn't dream of wrinkling when she wears it. Seeing her, you envision a walk-in closet full of neatly folded Italian cashmere. She must be rich, you think. Her look would be impossible to achieve -- or maintain -- without a trust fund and a lot of free time.
Actually, the "socialite look" -- we're talking Aerin Lauder, not Paris Hilton -- is just a matter of mastering a few basic rules.

1. Figure out what works and stick with it. Anchor your wardrobe with clean lines, good fabrics, classic tailoring. Develop a signature look . . . even a uniform. Avoid trends. The look you're striving for is fresh but timeless, and most trends have an expiration date.

2. Before you make a purchase, try to calculate Cost-Per-Wear. A Burberry trench that you'll wear every spring for the rest of your life could be worth a splurge. Likewise you'll always want to wear a great watch, "everyday" jewelry with just the right amount of bling, a simple clutch for evening, a T. Anthony tote that's comfortable but chic. A little black dress is part of every socialite's arsenal -- make sure yours fits perfectly, and you'll wear it all the time.

3. Buy at the right time. Stores need to turn over their inventory to make room for new arrivals, so keep your eye out for sales. There's definitely a right time (usually January) and a wrong time (November) to buy that shearling coat.

4. Buy more than one. Say you find the perfect pair of jeans. The right length, the right wash, the right silhouette from every angle. This is a good moment to splurge by doubling down on an extra pair (and if they're really that fabulous, two). Same goes for all your basics -- white tailored shirts, black ballet flats, socks. This way you'll have a fresh set to rotate in when the original starts to show wear and tear.

5. Never compromise on fit. Who cares if it's cashmere -- if the sweater doesn't fit properly, donate it. Keep your wardrobe as streamlined as possible.

6. Take care of what you have. Even if you're short on "staff," it's worth it to pay close attention to the laundry. Skip bleach -- it will hurt the fibers of your clothing after many washes. Instead, soak whites in hot water using detergent and a bleach alternative, like white vinegar. Be vigilant about separating colors. Your jeans and delicates should never see the inside of a dryer. Lastly, spot-clean items instead of always dry-cleaning -- it'll save you money, and save your clothes the chemical treatment.

7. Never pay retail. Why blow your budget at the mall when there are so many places to buy designer clothing at deep discounts? Gilt.com (become a member by signing up at gilt.com/theovernightsocialite), eBay, and consignment shops are just a few of the spots you'll find marked-down treasures that look like you bought them on Fifth Avenue. Somebody did.

8. Master a speedy daytime beauty routine. We all need to get out the door quickly sometimes. After your shower, massage a small amount of mousse into the roots of your hair, flip your head and use a flat brush to blow-dry hair into straight, shiny panels. Smear on some tinted moisturizer with SPF, some mascara, and some lipgloss, and you're good to go.

9. To paraphrase Coco Chanel, remove one accessory before you walk out the door. Less is more. If you want to look effortlessly elegant, put quality ahead of quantity and keep your look simple.

10. Exercise clothing should be worn solely to exercise. Ok, and back and forth to the gym. Socialites don't allow themselves to lapse into that comfy, sloppy look that can be so tempting on a Sunday morning.

Review: Cowboy Sandwich by Reece Butler

In Reece Butler's Cowboy Sandwich, Candy, divorced and ready to start her new life takes her friends advice and puts on a brave face and goes with her to a private club in hopes to find a man she can lose herself in. Her full intention is to meet a man, have hot sex and move one. She is brave and looking forward, no longer the doormat she was with her ex, this is the new and improved Candy and boy is she making the men drool. Those men are actually two hot cowboys who are looking for their one. Yes, THEIR one. They want a wife to share, a woman to bring back to the Double R Ranch, marry, raise babies and live a good life. When they spy Candy dancing on stage they outbid every other man for her homemade basket of goodies. But it isn't just the goodies Candy made in the basket these two sexy cowboys want. Nope, the want Candy and they are willing to pull out all the stops to get her.

Adam and Bryan are knocked back a step with Candy, she is everything they ever wanted in a woman and more. Adam especially carries a special fire for Candy, but he in particular is a real stubborn and proud man. Both Alpha males, actually they could be the poster boys, he isn't about to let her under his skin. Adam is kind and loving to her, making her realize from the get go that she is the one for him or them rather. Although the bond and attraction is to both men, Bryan feeling the same about Candy, the different thing (for me at least), about this triad is that they hope to be four, not just three.

Knowing each other all of their lives Adam and Bryan own the Double R, a cattle ranch in Montana and they do everything together, including sharing their women. Their goal is to actually marry separate women and they would all be together, sharing each other. A little different twist to the "normal" M/F/M, but I have to say that this was well written by Butler and you couldn't help but fall in love with Adam, Bryan and Candy.

Candy is a changed woman and you can feel her strength in Bulter's words, but you also feel her vulnerabilities, especially towards Adam. He is so guarded with his feelings, but the intense desire they share creates a tumultuous and angst-filled relationship. Almost tearing them all apart in the end. A macho man, Adam needs to seriously get in touch with his feelings before he loses Candy for good!

Bryan's Story is coming next on Reece Bulter's schedule and I for one will be buying it the day it comes out!

Determined to take charge of her life, Candy abandons her inhibitions and heads West. Adam and Bryan, co-owners of a remote Montana cattle ranch, are eager for luscious female heat after three cold months in the saddle. Candy's first step toward freedom is one glorious night of wild sex. The men prove what four hands, two mouths and hard driving muscles can do in a few determined hours.
But meeting her deep, dark fantasies requires more time. They invite her back to the Double R, promising games of Virgin and Pirates, Harem Girl and Sheiks. With hard working days and deliciously wicked nights, the last few weeks of the winter pass quickly.
Ranch life, and her men, are everything Candy wants. But she can't live a fantasy forever, hoping they'll ask her to stay. Unless they return her love, she must claim her independence and escape before her heart breaks.

Review: Tales of the Red Moon Clan by Cherie De Sues

Do you ever start reading a book and keep saying to yourself, "wow, I love this book", I kept thinking I just couldn't wait to find out what happened next?  When I was asked to read Tales of the Red Moon Clan by author Cherie De Sues I jumped at the chance since I can't get enough of those sexy shifters and reading the blurb I was more than enticed. I thought the above a lot (oh, I just love this book),  & there was frankly so much action and it was so well written that I was captured from the moment I started.

In the first few pages our story is set up for us, Assistant D.A. Sara Hughes is on a suicide mission. Thing is she is just too worked up thinking about what has to be done to realize she is writing her own death warrant. Out at night heading to a seedy bar, hoping to corner the owner Daniels about a man who works for him and the murder of a young woman. Little does she realize, as sharp, intelligent and downright fearless she is in a courtroom, Sara is way out of her element. Daniels and her suspect Codger have the upper hand, and overhearing Daniels confess to not one but two murders is going to all but seal the deal on her death. That is if Daniels and Codger have anything to do with it.

Out to catch his bounty Codger and bring him in, Neol has caught the sight and the scent of the stunning beautiful D.A. He has been watching her for some time in court as she puts his bounties behind bars sitting in the back admiring her from afar, knowing that he can not touch her. He would be a goner.

That was until he heard her screaming for her life, desperate to get away at the hands of Daniels' men who were going to rape then kill her. His inner cougar was being called out and he knew he had to rescue her. But Neol holds many secrets of his Red Moon Clan, two years ago he had to give up his life as a cop, a job in which he LOVED, his Grandfather called him down to take his rightful place amongst his people and become a medicaine man. He would be a shifter, one with nature and would be able to control the earth's elements. A powerful, powerful job, a responsibility that he was hesitant yet honored to take.

What follows is a story of immense trust between Sara and Neol as he helps her run for her life towards safety and out of Daniels grasp. They bond instantly, but Sara is a cleaver girl and knows that although this handsome rugged man just saved her life, about a dozen times, there is something about him deep down that is being back.
Neol is skilled and fearless, but still drifting through life as he continues to take the highest payout and most dangerous of bounties, using his skills as a Navajo Medicine Man to help track his prey. This time the reclusive man can't hold back, someone is after his True Mate and he will do anything, even kill to save her.

On the run for their lives the adventure just keeps going and the romance and trust between the two heat up the pages making for a delicious and explosive ride! Cherie De Sues masterfully created two lovable & in-depth characters, perfectly illustrating who they are and how they feel dealing with both their insecurities and inner struggles much less their budding relationship while they fight for their lives. The plot is entertaining and left me on the edge, just when I thought I could take a breather, De Sues sucks you back into the action for another dramatic roller coaster ride that will leave you wind blown and gasping for air. BRAVO!

Neol Pallaton walks alone through the bowels of society as a bounty hunter, until he shifts into a cougar to save Assistant D.A. Sara Hughes from certain death. A relentless killer keeps them moving by day through the Oregon forest—and by night under the full moon, passion rules their hearts.
The rugged forest is no place for a beautiful and feisty city woman, but Neol’s determined to help Sara piece together why she's being hunted. Sara thought bounty hunters were brutal loners who stretched the law she’s sworn to uphold. But Neol proves that no one can hunt, track and protect her like a Navajo medicine man from the Red Moon Clan.
Neol is willing to anger the spirits to protect his one true mate. Sara will have to bend the law to keep Neol and her alive—and together forever

Review: The Overnight Socialite by Bridie Clark

I have been trying a lot of new to me authors lately and I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I am truly enjoying all the wonderful stories I have had the opportunity to read. This includes Bridie Clark's The Overnight Socialite. This I found was a really cute story of a poor girl trying to make it in the big bad city and just not quite able to pull it off. A rags to riches story, witty, charming and delightful in that way a very well written and highly entertaining book captures your heart and sucks you into a story so much you just want to be best friends with the heroine. The author behind his sweet little gem is Bridie Clark

This is the story of Lucy Jo Ellis a wanna be fashion designer who has hit the mecca, New York City. Not a place for the faint of heart, and the sweet Lucy Jo is just that, and gullible to a fault! She has no idea that she is about to be ensnared in a trap by a pretty heartless and self centered Wyatt. Wyatt is a jerk, he has made a bet with his buddy that he can turn around an everyday average girl into a socialite.

ANY girl! That girl he has chosen is Lucy. I felt horrible for Lucy Jo, you can't help yourself, her dreamed are crush, or so she thinks. She is ready to pack in all in and head home, believing that NYC just isn't the place for her and she will never have her dream of being a fashion designer. Then Wyatt approaches her and her life is about to change, big time. An experiment for a bet, that is all she is to him. With realistic characters and high drama, including the loveably irritating Carnelia (Wyatt's girlfriend who wants a ring on her finger), you can't help but love this fast paced story of an everyday girl getting the life she always wanted.... or is it?

Clark (Because She Can) moves the Pygmalion myth to Manhattan, adds a dash of Thelma and Louise and proves what goes around, comes around to those born to the manor or trailer park. Professor Higgins is recast as suave bachelor Wyatt Hayes IV, “the sleekest lion in the pride,” who picks down-on-her-luck fashion designer wannabe Lucy Jo Ellis to make over into the toast of the town. The deal is eventually struck—makeover and a shot at well-born fashion contacts for a gentleman's bet that masks a lucrative and career-saving book deal. Along the way, these perfectly matched antagonists battle mean-as-a-snake society snoots and their own misguided ambitions to find happiness and each other. (And, it should be said, the “Rain in Spain” remix is pretty great: “The snow in Gstaad puts Aspen's to shame!” the newly svelte and prepped Lucy proclaims.) Yes, of course the ending's no surprise, but the rollicking, smart-aleck fun along the way is worth the price of admission.

Review: White Tiger by Vijaya Schartz

Vijaya Schartz has created an incredible world of 2nd Earth in book one of the CHRONICLES OF KASSOUK White Tiger. And just look at that cover, isn't it just beautiful!
Vijaya has created a fascinating world of Kassouk, a frozen world, the world of Humans, Godds, Reptoids and Mutants, the world of Tora. Known as the White Tiger, Tora knows that there is something drastically wrong with her world. The Godds and the Reptoids are playing a vicious game using the Humans and the Zerkers as pawns. But to what purpose?

Tora's father has just been murdered, killed by a soldier who has betrayed him and she is determined to average his death at all costs. But on his death bed right in the first few pages he tells her that he is not her father. Tomaso loved her as his own, but her mother begged him to marry her and was already with child at the time. Tora, well she is a warrior to the bone. She knows that the system of the Godds is corrupt and there is more going on then they are telling the people (Humans). Believing that she is honoring her father, so takes her army and heads to war, the Zerkers of humans living on the edge. Killers and outcasts, Tora and the army must stop them before they are able to invade their lands completely.
In comes Dragomir, he is a Mutant (Godd father), he has been working for the Godds as a spy, now sent to work with Tora and her Army to find out who is plotting against the Godds. But he too is suspicious of the Godds and all their political games, something is going on behind the scenes and he is determined to find out.
Sexy and fierce, Dragomir is a force to be reckoned with, he and Tora's attraction is hot from the beginning. But he is a Mutant and she a Human (or so she thinks), thus forbidden to be together. Together they will find out what is going on, even though Dragomir is suspicious of Tora he can't hold back his attraction. Makes for a sizzler of a read, bringing the reader into the stunning world of Kassouk where Vijaya created such beautiful imagery I wanted to reach out and touch it. Mainly because it is unlike anything that I have ever read, with fantastical elements are woven seamlessly into the lives of these characters, making the reader feel a part of the action. Tora is about to learn a that life without risk, and most especially without love, is no life at all.

Book 2 is coming out April 1st in eBook from Desert Breeze Publishing, Red Leopard: Chronicles of Kassouk Book Two.
See pictures and read an excerpt of Red Leopard on her website at:

Each book in the series is a complete story, but If you want to avoid spoilers and read White Tiger first (book One) hurry to get it at:
 ***Giveaway Alert***
Vijaya is also starting a contest to win RED LEOPARD when it comes out in April. Anyone can enter and win.

On the frozen planet of Kassouk, where a few aliens rule as dieties on a medieval Human world, Tora -- a Human warrior trained by tigers -- seeks her father's murderer. But what she finds at the point of her sword confuses her. How dare Dragomir, the handsome Mutant, question her bloodline and her loyalties? And could a new enemy control the savage hordes of the fringe?
Dragomir offers to help, but Humans and Mutants are forbidden to fraternize under penalty of death... Should Tora trust her mind, her instincts, or her heart?
In the vortex of war, treason and intrique... among blizzards, avalanches and ambushes... will Tora solve the mystery of her father's death and unveil the secret of her birth? Can she and Dragomir escape persecutions long enough to save their planet from the invaders and fulfill their destiny?

Cherise Sinclair, Author Interview and Giveaway!

Today I have a long time favorite author or mine at Book Junkie, that would be Cherise Sinclar. One of my favorite books of Cherise's is Master of the Mountain, you can read my review HERE. If she is a new to you author I would suggest checkin out her website to get to know her and her writings a little bit better! But as a teaser and in celebration for the release of Book #4 in the Masters of the Shadowlands series, Lean on Me. (You can read my review of Lean on Me HERE)

If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Rotating around the alphabet makes this fun, so, going with ‘i’: intelligent, independent, and imaginative.
Now using ‘p’ might be a little more difficult. Anyone?

Can you tell us a little about your newest release Lean on Me?
This is the fourth in the Masters of the Shadowlands series, Master Cullen’s story and it wasn’t easy to write.
Master Cullen handles the bar at the Shadowlands. He’s gregarious and fun--and also the submissive trainer, a very experienced Dom. I wanted to give him a challenge, a really independent woman, but…you know how sometimes tough females come across as strident or bitchy? I didn’t want that. I wanted her to have some vulnerabilities to undermine that independence, but I didn’t want her going belly-up like a wussie either.
So here’s the blurb of Lean on Me -- if you read it, let me know if I managed to walk that tightrope, eh?

Andrea wants to submit, but not to just any so-called Dom. He has to be tougher than the slum-bred bullies she grew up with. She’d given up finding a true Dom when her friend finagles her a place as a trainee in an exclusive BDSM club with the powerful Shadowlands Masters. Andrea’s thrilled…and terrified.
Forced to accept an unknown submissive into his carefully run trainee program, Master Cullen is furious. Not only is the young woman new to BDSM, but she’s unsuited to her role--armoured in leather like a Domme, she’s more liable to punch a Dom than kneel. He decides to push her right back out the door. But as he ruthlessly intimidates her, punishes her, then cuddles her, his glimpses of the woman inside the emotional armour intrigue him and her utter surrender captures his heart.
Although Master Cullen is famous for his unfettered lifestyle, Andrea believes he might be interested in her, until she discovers he’s not just a bartender--he’s a cop. Maybe he’d overlook her past brush with the law, but when another trainee accuses her of stealing money, Andrea knows she’s lost the Master she wanted with all her heart.

What was your favorite scene to write in Lean on Me?
Hmmm. Perhaps when Andrea tried to cheer Master Cullen up by acting like a bratty sub and he maneuvered her out to the deck then noticed the top of the igloo doghouse was just the right shape for… Well, let’s just say he had a good time.

Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
Oh, I doubt there’s very many authors who don’t have a rejected manuscript or two stuffed under the bed. Remember that, you yet-to-be-published writers. A rejection isn’t the end of the world; it’s just the impetus for a new story.
I’d love to see my fantasy romance published (a hunky merman, anyone?), but it’ll probably continue collecting dust bunnies.

What is the hardest part for you about creating/continuing on with a series?
My damned-poor memory. I know my people, their personalities, and the way they talk and what they like, but… Is the scar on his right hand or the left? Where did I put the swimming pool? Was the St. Andrew’s cross by the door or farther back? How many brothers did he have?
I keep notes, but still, there’s always something I miss. I live in terror of a reader telling me that a character changed eye color between book two and three.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?
Oh, it has to be dragging a fellow author, Belinda McBride, to a Master’s Den auction at the Citadel in San Francisco. (yes, I mean a submissive auction ), It was totally fun, and I loved adapting it for Lean on Me.

Have you ever encountered someone who said, “You write what!!! “?
Actually no…because I tell very few people. Small town, children, respectable husband (well, pretty respectable) -- very few people here know what I do.
And in my family, well, I had a rather disreputable past, so they are used to…interesting…behavior from me. LOL!

Do your characters speak to you? If so, is there drinking involved?
They do, God help me. And since I write about very dominant men, well, the heroes can be pretty demanding…and stubborn and annoying.
Master Cullen was one of the worst. I thought he was an easy-going, sweet guy. NOT! We argued over toys, over locations, over his job… There’s something not quite right about having to fight with someone who is supposed to be a character.
(Drinking and talking to characters? I’d be terrified. Hey, my heroes have floggers!)

What is the worst pick-up line a man ever used on you, and did it work?
Oh, dear. Okay, I was scuba-diving in Cozumel, and my friends and I went to the disco. I was dancing and enjoying the company of a nice executive-type American.
A man (lean, muscular, dark eyes) stops me on the way to the bathroom and says (in a lovely, lovely accent), “That man. He is too fat for you.”
Did it work? Oh, yeah, all too well. *turning red*

If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
What’s your favorite romantic fantasy? or for those who’ve read my books: what do you want to see that I haven’t given you yet?

Lean on Me by Cherise Sinclair

Lean on Me is book 4 in Cherise Sinclair's Master of The Shadowlands series, Master Cullen's story, a sexy Dom not looking for his own personal Sub, but with fate's twisted sense of humor that is exactly what has landed in his lap. Andrea Erickson was having a hard time, find a true Dom, one who could take control and make her sizzle. Having frequented a few clubs Andrea had only run into dead end after dead end. All the "Doms" that she was running into did nothing of the sort. Calling on a favor her best friend since childhood, Antonio gets her into The Shadowlands. Now The Shadowlands isn't just any ole BDSM club, but exclusive and extremely pricy, too rich for Andrea's blood. But now with Anthony's called in favor Andrea and the opportunity to have the membership waived, she has agreed to become a Trainee, which meant if she couldn't take it, she was out.

The Master in charge of the trainee's is Master Cullen, strong, powerful and emotions in check he is taken back when Andrea comes through The Shadowlands door. Years of going from sub to sub had prepared him for her, she was stubborn to the bone, feisty and a bit of a smart ass, but she was a submissive at heart. No matter how tough Andrea played it she couldn't deny her true self and Master Cullen knew it. Immediately charming and true to HIS nature Master Cullen took charge with Andrea. I admired her tenacity and strength, she needed to be tough all her life to make it as far has she had and with the family she was graced with.
A past she holds close to her heart, a father who was a constant disappointment and a family history that, when finding out that Master Cullen was a cop, iced her veins in fear.
She wanted Master Cullen, the only man, the only Dom who was able to release her inner sub, not to mention that she was falling hard for him. Their chemistry..... oh Ms. Sinclair and her talented imagination lights the pages on fire with Andrea and Master Cullen. But not all is roses, this club, The Shadowlands is high class, but having money doesn't give you class. Thus the case with a vindictive and jealous trainee who only wants to see Andrea suffer. Believing that she is beneath her, from a poor family, just a maid and dirty. Causing problems for Andrea to the point of distraction. Andrea needs to find the strength to believe in Master Cullen and trust the man and his feelings for her. So many years of disappointment and denial of her true self there might not be a way back to happiness for Master Cullen and Andrea. She will have to learn the hard way, even if that means losing Master Cullen altogether. Just like any relationship, especially in a D/s relationship there must be trust, if you don't have that, you have nothing.
From beginning to end a sinfully delicious story of one woman's struggle to trust who she is inside and accept herself as well as the love of the man that she loves with all her heart. A mix of sweet poetry as Cherise Sinclair heightens your senses and brings you into the world of The Shadlowlands as a kind of voyeur, only to happy to watch as a spectator the lives of Andrea and Master Cullen intertwine and become one. The stunning and sexy imagery of the world of BDSM, the erotic submission, the intensity of experience, the drama and passion of this story explodes from the pages...... leaving them breathless and longing for more

But as he ruthlessly intimidates her, punishes her, then cuddles her, his glimpse of the woman inside the emotional armour intrigues him, and her utter surrender captures his heart.

Author Interview & Giveaway with Julia Hoban

Today I would like to welcome to Book Junkie Author Julia Hoban to talk a little about her book Willow. I had the honor to read this gripping and emotional book and you can read my review HERE. Don't forget to scroll down and sign up for the Giveaway for a copy of Willow!

What inspired you to write Willow?

I wanted to write a book for all of us with self destructive urges, a book that would take one person from a place of self harm to a place of healing, and in doing so possibly make people question their own damaging behaviors. I chose to make Willow a cutter because it is a very dramatic and obvious form of self injury, but it could just as easily have been a book about overeating or doing drugs, or even something as innocent as watching too much television.

Can you tell us a little about your newest release Willow ?
Willow is the story of a young woman, a seventeen year old girl, who loses her parents in a car accident, an accident for which she was responsible. She is so overcome with guilt, so isolated and alone, that she feels she has no other way to deal with her pain than by cutting herself.
Sounds pretty grim, I know. But while the above may be the bare bones of the plot, the themes that Willow explores are really not so dire. Willow is really about hope, about redemption, and above all, about the power of love to heal. Now Willow is not the right book for everyone, no question, but I’d like to assure your readers who are a little … let’s say, frightened by the sound of it, that many, many people have told me that they found it to be a very uplifting book, a very hopeful book, and above all a very romantic book.

What's your favorite scene to write in Willow?
You’re going to make me blush, but the naughty bit was my most favorite! I really enjoyed working on the scene where Willow and Guy lose their virginity together. Your readers are going to think they’re in for something quite steamy, but it’s rather tame! Blink and you miss it! What I like about it is the tenderness and awkwardness between the two of them.

What are you currently working on?
I’m working on a new book, but I’m WAY too superstitious to talk about it until it’s finished. However, I can tell you two things, 1) it’s as different from WILLOW as could possibly be, I’d say the only similarities are that both works are in English with female heroines, and 2)I’m about 85% done, and will be able to talk about it soon! I hope you’ll invite me back to discuss it!

You're stranded on an island...you can take only three books with you. What would they be?
Now that’s a tough question!! I can’t believe I can’t come up with an answer since I’ve been trying to prepare one for years! There’s a famous English show called “Desert Island Discs,” everyone has been on it, and been asked the same thing. Maybe you know the fabulous play by Tom Stoppard called The Real Thing? The main character is asked to be on the show, and the first book he comes up with is “Finnegan’s Wake,” his girlfriend asks him if he’s read it (I mean who has?? Full disclosure, I’ve never made it past page ten !!) There’s a point to that long winded anecdote. Everybody on Desert Island Discs lies and tries to sound incredibly sophisticated and intelligent!! OK, here goes, I’m only going to need one book, Die Grundalagen, by John Van Neumann, considered by many to be the fundamental work in Quantum mechanics. To the best of my knowledge it’s never been translated into English, and although I did go to grad school in physics, even when I was at the top of my game it was well beyond me. However, it would be the perfect choice as I would quickly expire of boredom, thus saving myself from the more unpleasant death of dehydration.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?
I’m tempted to lie, and come up with some fabulous story. The fact is the most interesting thing I’ve done in the name of research is read a lot of book, in bed, while eating massive amounts of chocolate. But since I mentioned physics in the last question let’s stick with that theme. I can’t tell you anything interesting that I’ve done, but I can tell you that Isaac Newton stuck a needle in his eye in order to ascertain something about optics. Now, whether you think he was immensely committed, or should have been committed…..

If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
Hmm, that’s another tough one, how about this: does the idea of reading a book that deals with something like cutting seem less than appealing, and if it does, would you still consider giving WILLOW a chance?

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
