Today I have a long time favorite author or mine at Book Junkie, that would be Cherise Sinclar. One of my favorite books of Cherise's is Master of the Mountain, you can read my review HERE. If she is a new to you author I would suggest checkin out her website to get to know her and her writings a little bit better! But as a teaser and in celebration for the release of Book #4 in the Masters of the Shadowlands series, Lean on Me. (You can read my review of Lean on Me HERE)
If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Rotating around the alphabet makes this fun, so, going with ‘i’: intelligent, independent, and imaginative.
Now using ‘p’ might be a little more difficult. Anyone?
Can you tell us a little about your newest release Lean on Me?
This is the fourth in the Masters of the Shadowlands series, Master Cullen’s story and it wasn’t easy to write.
Master Cullen handles the bar at the Shadowlands. He’s gregarious and fun--and also the submissive trainer, a very experienced Dom. I wanted to give him a challenge, a really independent woman, but…you know how sometimes tough females come across as strident or bitchy? I didn’t want that. I wanted her to have some vulnerabilities to undermine that independence, but I didn’t want her going belly-up like a wussie either.
So here’s the blurb of Lean on Me -- if you read it, let me know if I managed to walk that tightrope, eh?
Andrea wants to submit, but not to just any so-called Dom. He has to be tougher than the slum-bred bullies she grew up with. She’d given up finding a true Dom when her friend finagles her a place as a trainee in an exclusive BDSM club with the powerful Shadowlands Masters. Andrea’s thrilled…and terrified.
Forced to accept an unknown submissive into his carefully run trainee program, Master Cullen is furious. Not only is the young woman new to BDSM, but she’s unsuited to her role--armoured in leather like a Domme, she’s more liable to punch a Dom than kneel. He decides to push her right back out the door. But as he ruthlessly intimidates her, punishes her, then cuddles her, his glimpses of the woman inside the emotional armour intrigue him and her utter surrender captures his heart.
Although Master Cullen is famous for his unfettered lifestyle, Andrea believes he might be interested in her, until she discovers he’s not just a bartender--he’s a cop. Maybe he’d overlook her past brush with the law, but when another trainee accuses her of stealing money, Andrea knows she’s lost the Master she wanted with all her heart.
What was your favorite scene to write in Lean on Me?
Hmmm. Perhaps when Andrea tried to cheer Master Cullen up by acting like a bratty sub and he maneuvered her out to the deck then noticed the top of the igloo doghouse was just the right shape for… Well, let’s just say he had a good time.
Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
Oh, I doubt there’s very many authors who don’t have a rejected manuscript or two stuffed under the bed. Remember that, you yet-to-be-published writers. A rejection isn’t the end of the world; it’s just the impetus for a new story.
I’d love to see my fantasy romance published (a hunky merman, anyone?), but it’ll probably continue collecting dust bunnies.
What is the hardest part for you about creating/continuing on with a series?
My damned-poor memory. I know my people, their personalities, and the way they talk and what they like, but… Is the scar on his right hand or the left? Where did I put the swimming pool? Was the St. Andrew’s cross by the door or farther back? How many brothers did he have?
I keep notes, but still, there’s always something I miss. I live in terror of a reader telling me that a character changed eye color between book two and three.
What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?
Oh, it has to be dragging a fellow author, Belinda McBride, to a Master’s Den auction at the Citadel in San Francisco. (yes, I mean a submissive auction ), It was totally fun, and I loved adapting it for Lean on Me.
Have you ever encountered someone who said, “You write what!!! “?
Actually no…because I tell very few people. Small town, children, respectable husband (well, pretty respectable) -- very few people here know what I do.
And in my family, well, I had a rather disreputable past, so they are used to…interesting…behavior from me. LOL!
Do your characters speak to you? If so, is there drinking involved?
They do, God help me. And since I write about very dominant men, well, the heroes can be pretty demanding…and stubborn and annoying.
Master Cullen was one of the worst. I thought he was an easy-going, sweet guy. NOT! We argued over toys, over locations, over his job… There’s something not quite right about having to fight with someone who is supposed to be a character.
(Drinking and talking to characters? I’d be terrified. Hey, my heroes have floggers!)
What is the worst pick-up line a man ever used on you, and did it work?
Oh, dear. Okay, I was scuba-diving in Cozumel, and my friends and I went to the disco. I was dancing and enjoying the company of a nice executive-type American.
A man (lean, muscular, dark eyes) stops me on the way to the bathroom and says (in a lovely, lovely accent), “That man. He is too fat for you.”
Did it work? Oh, yeah, all too well. *turning red*
If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
What’s your favorite romantic fantasy? or for those who’ve read my books: what do you want to see that I haven’t given you yet?
