Review: Binary Stars Vol 1--Hard Lessons and Security by Jack Greene

Two sizzler's from bestselling author Jack Greene, Hard Lessons and Security will capture your attention with every naught word, and delightfully so! Two hot, short stories starting with Security scientist Tyler who is the epitome of work o’holic and a little nerdy. Having gone through school at a fast pace and now working in the lab, most of his days and nights are spent alone…..dreaming of a man in uniform, a particular security guard named Gideon in fact. Lusting after Gideon get’s Tyler through his days and nights and all those lonely, lonely hours pass in a blur until one night Gideon finally approaches him. Not even in his wildest dreams, ok maybe his wildest dreams, Gideon could be gay. Not just that, but that he be interested in him! Tyler is much smaller than Gideon and aches to be dominated by then beautiful and much stronger man. Only in his fantasies right! No way, not if Gideon has anything to say about it, and it just so happens he has A LOT to say about it!

Hard Lessons is all about Tom and Shawn and new discoveries. Tom an intelligent and studious guy is a virgin and finds himself tutoring the Universities football star much to his irritation. But that irritation turns into lust quickly as the all American Shawn starts asking him some seriously personal questions. Immediately I felt that Shawn was sincere in his query about Tom’s lifestyle. Automatically zeroing in on the fact that he is gay. Shawn has secrets of his own and before they know it Tom as spilled the beans on some of his most private and intimate desires and much to the surprise of Tom, he is completely enthralled and hot all over for the jock. Just his type.

What appealed to me so much was the brilliant characterization of all the players in these two captivating stories of first encounters, sexual domination, and pure lust in its most raw form. Deliciously sinful and just plain fun stories that will hypnotize you with every erotic word…… Bravo Jack Greene!

"Hard Lessons: Studious Tom - resident nerd and social wallflower - has the enviable job of tutoring the college BMOC. Shawn needs to pass his math course in order to continue playing football, but once brain meets brawn the pair ends up studying more anatomy than numbers.

Security: Working late in his lab brings Tyler satisfaction with his career, though it's hell on his personal. Stolen moments ogling Gideon, the building's night guard, helps ease the loneliness, and when Tyler discovers he's being ogled himself he decides it's time for a whole new experiment."

Guest Author, Interview & Giveaway w/Larissa Ione

Today  I am thrilled to be apart of the Ecstasy Unveiled Blog tour celebrating book 4 in the Demonica Series by Larissa Ione. Larissa was kind enough to answer some of my questions about her writing and Ecstasy Unveild. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to enter the Giveaway! I have 5 copies to give away of Ecstasy Unveild. So let's begin!

First off, I want to thank you for having me! Okay *flexes fingers* let’s get to it! :-)....Larissa Ione

If someone were writing a story about Larissa Ione, what would your blurb say?
ir Force veteran Larissa Ione was a storyteller from birth. As she grew, so did the tales. And now she’s trapped inside her head with demons, vampires, and humans with supernatural powers. She either needs therapy, medication, or to be rescued by a really hot doctor. Will help reach her before she loses her grip on reality completely?

Can you tell us a little about your newest release Ecstasy Unveiled?
I’d love to! Ecstasy Unveiled is the fourth book in the Demonica series, which is set in and around an underworld hospital run by vampires, demons, and werewolves. The core of these books is a family brothers, all of whom are demons, and none of whom were raised together. They fight a lot but they also are very close.
In Ecstasy Unveiled, a new brother makes waves, and the family unit is tested. Lore, the new brother and an assassin, is set against them when he’s forced to target a family friend. But the friend is being guarded by an angel, Idess, and she’s determined to keep Lore from doing what he needs to do to save his sister’s life. There’s lots of action in this book, and a lot of steamy scenes!

What is the hardest part for you about creating/continuing on with a series? Focusing on the current story. When you know the basic plots and arc of the books in the series, there are scenes you’re dying to write from books ahead of the one you’re working on. It’s so tempting to skip ahead when you’re stuck on the current book, and so easy to let yourself daydream about future books when you really need to be working on the one in front of you.

Have you ever encountered someone who said, “You write what!!! “? LOL – all the time! But I’m proud of what I write and how I got the point where I’m at, so really, I just shrug off any odd comments or weird looks.

Which of your Books would you like to see turned into a movie and who would play the main characters?
That’s a hard one! I guess the best one would be Passion Unleashed, because it’s very much an adventure book, and much of it takes place in Egypt. The main characters? Hmm…I think the hero, Wraith, could be played by Josh Holloway from LOST, and Julie Benz might make a great Serena.

What was your favorite scene to write in Ecstasy Unveiled? What was the most challenging?
My favorite scene is one where Eidolon, Tayla, and Wraith are discussing the Smurfs. I laughed all the way through that scene, because Eidolon is so serious and stoic, and it killed him to be talking about cartoon characters. The most challenging? Hmm…probably any scene where the brothers were fighting. They love each other so much, so making them be at each others’ throats was hard.

What advice would you give to people who "run out of creativity" when writing? Read and watch movies. Exercise. Get out of the house. It’s really, really important to fill the well.

Can you briefly tell the us how you Made My First Sale?
Well, I had basically given up on writing. I’d gotten so close to publication, and I was on the verge with a manuscript I loved…and then we were hit by Hurricane Katrina. We lost everything, and our hurricane insurance didn’t cover the storm surge damage, so none of our losses on the brand new house and contents were covered. Just days later, I got a rejection for that manuscript that was so close. I had to move with my son to Washington state to live with my parents for a year, while my husband, who is in the Coast Guard, remained in Mississippi, living on his boat and trying to take care of the mess.
So anyway, I basically gave up on writing, unable to take any more hits. But the writing community came to my rescue, and with all the support, I was able to get back on that horse. I threw caution to the wind, figuring I didn’t have anything left to lose, and I started submitting again. I sold my first story to Red Sage, and two weeks later sold 3 books (with writing partner Stephanie Tyler) to Random House, and then a few months after that, sold the Demonica series. It was awesome, and definitely worth the wait!

If you could be any heroine from one of your books, who would you be?
Probably Kira, from my Sydney Croft book, Unleashing the Storm. She can communicate psychically with animals, and I’m a huge animal lover, so she’s special to me. But I also wouldn’t mind being Tayla from Pleasure Unbound, because she’s a demon slayer, and she really kicks butt. *g*

What qualities are a must when creating your hero?
He’s got to be protective of what is his. He has to like animals. He has to be confident, and deep down, he’s got to have a soft inside, because on the outside, he’s hard.

Do book covers matter, would you go back and change any of yours if you could? Book covers are really important! I love them, and I will always pick up a book with a great cover. I’ve been very lucky, because my covers have all been fabulous. The only thing I’d change? The hair on the hero on the cover of Pleasure Unbound. Eidolon has short dark hair, and the model has longish, blond hair. He looks more like Wraith than Eidolon!

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?
became an Emergency Medical Technician so I could accurately portray my medical heroes and heroines. Emergency medicine has always fascinated me, so it was fun to take the course and work on ambulances!

If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
Do you read the dedications in books? I’ve always been curious about that! I always read them. I’m probably a weirdo…

Thanks again for having me! It’s been fun!

An Angel Tempted…

Idess is an earthbound angel with a wild side, sworn to protect the human Lore is targeting. Torn between duty and desire, Lore and Idess must join forces as they battle their attraction for each other. Because an enemy from the past is rising again-one hellbent on vengeance and unthinkable destruction."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I began writing the way so many writers do the moment I learned to wield a pencil. But even as a child, I didn't write "kid" stories. I preferred something more dramatic. Something that didn't include Dick, Jane, and a dog named Spot. I wanted my characters to be named Dracula and my dogs to have names like White Fang or Cujo. I'll always have my parents to thank for that. They never censored my reading material (though I suspect that if they had truly known what was between the covers of some of the books, they'd have been a little more careful,) so when other girls my age were reading Laura Ingalls Wilder and Judy Blume, I was immersing myself in Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
Later, after I'd joined the Air Force and was in dire need of something to read between shifts at the weather station, I continued to read horror, but I'd branched out into fantasy, and then, finally, romance (though I admit I went kicking and screaming to the latter.)
Turned out that I loved romance! So I started writing it, but again, my style and voice leaned toward the dark, paranormal side. Fortunately for me, paranormal romance, as a sub-genre, was booming. I let my imagination fly, and soon I'd sold a series of dark, sexy paranormal romances to Grand Central Publishing.
I still read a lot of horror, science fiction, and fantasy, and in fact, one of my all time favorite books about writing is On Writing, by my favorite childhood horror author, Stephen King. If you're an author or a reader, I highly recommend this book for an insight into an author's mind—which can sometimes be a very scary place.
Go ahead; Seduce your dark side.

Review: Hot Shot by M.J. Fredrick

M.J. Fredrick's Hot Shot is just that Hot, Hot, Hot! Peyton Michael's is a woman on the mission, find out why some people feel the need to put their lives at risk, in the face of danger everyday..... heroes! She is a reporter and journalist who is seeking solice and understanding on what drives these people to choose these careers and personal understanding on why it was so important to her husband that he gave his life to his swat team, to only lose his life on one tragic day that forever be en-grained on Peyton's life. She is a smart cookie, great personality, but can't seem to get over the fact that she feels somewhat responsible for his death. This mission brings her to a Hot Shot crew and right into Gabe Cooper's life, much to his dismay. A Crew Chief for his team and one bonafied bad ass he isn't happy when his ex wife assigns Peyton to his crew, even if it is just for the day. Being a Hot Shot is serious business and Gabe doesn't even take rookies much less reporters, so as his usual grumpy self his lets Peyton know just how unhappy he is to have her along. It doesn't help his ego and emotions that his ex-wife is the IC (Incident Commander). The problem and it's a big one, is that she left him a few years ago for his best friend a fire jumper telling Gabe that his priority and first love was being a Hot Shot, she felt that there was no room for her. Bitter and still wounded, even more so since this is the first time he has seen her or his ex-best buddy since the divorce he is having a hard time getting his head on straight. Not to mention she is now pregnant, Gabe is all to happy to head out onto the hill to try and squash this fire. A Fire that is a killer, trapping a girl scout troop and their guides Gabe and Peyton through dump bad luck end up being trapped by the fire and their own intense emotions. Peyton can't explain the attraction to Gabe besides the fact that he is lusting after yet another adrenalin junkie! She can't believe it, but the attraction between Gabe and Peyton happens fast and get hotter than any fire that they are trying to put out. No time to lusty thoughts as Gabe and Peyton start to realize that this fire might have been set by a Fire Jumper or Hot Shot, someone knew just how to start the fire so it would spread and more than that, evidence was left at the point of origin..... a canister that belongs to a fellow FireJumper. Not able to squash their passion Gabe and Peyton's desire for one another can't be stopped. Gabe may be an adrenaline junkie, but being a Hot Shot is what defines him. OR so he thinks, he is a powerful man, sexy and caring and compassionate, a lethal combination on Peyton's senses. Through the rough week together she is starting to become more accepting of Gabe's nature, his passion for his job and his loyalty to his teammates, even when one is considered guilty of starting the fires which has now killed two Fire Jumpers. Raw and gritty Gabe slowly opens up to Peyton making her realize that he isn't her ex-husband, but as much as Peyton is starting to fall in love with Gabe she knows that they will have to fight for their lives as the true arsonist and murderer sets their sites on her. A beautifully written love story, so much action and suspense I wasn't able to figure out the "who done it" until close to the end. So intriguing with keeping me on the edge that I didn't care, I was so intertwined with the adventure of Gabe and Peyton I couldn't stop until I reached the end.

Book Junkie's Rating: 5/5
Synopsis: "Their passion rivals the fires they battle. Peyton Michaels expected her assignment to be simple-write an article about everyday heroes. Heroes like Hot Shot firefighter Gabe Cooper. She never expected to find herself running up a mountain, a wildfire nipping at her heels, her life in his hands. And she never expected to be drawn to Gabe. After the loss of her husband in the line of duty, the last thing she wants is to fall in love with yet another man who routinely puts his life at risk. Gabe has had enough of women who want to make him into someone he's not. Women like his ex, who couldn't handle the heat of his job. Like Peyton, who sees him as a hero when he's just a man doing a job. Except time after time, the pesky reporter proves her mettle. And gets deeper under his skin. But there's an arsonist at work, and danger is closing in with the speed of a raging brush fire. Peyton and Gabe have to dig deep for what it takes to be a real hero-to find the courage to reach out and grab a forever kind of love. Before it's too late."

Review & Giveaway: A Black Tie Affair by Sherrill Bodine

In A Black Tie Affair by Sherrill Bodine we are introduced to Athena who is a fashion curator and is wildly excited to be chosen to authenticate some gowns dating back from the 19th century and part of the Clayworth Family collection. She touches the gowns and doesn't realize that they carry some sort of chemical or toxin and whines up in the hospital. To her horror long time love of 15 years past Drew Clayworth shows up and half out of her mind she admits she still loves him. There is bad blood between the two as all those years ago Drew believes that Athena betrayed him and he hasn't sought it past his feelings for her to actually forgive. That doesn't stop his need and desire for her though and as Athena recovers the two are in cahoots to find the dresses that are now missing. Especially since knowing they now carry this toxin and can harm someone else.
A little mystery, a little sweet, flirty romance that leaves you warm inside is what this book is all about. The only thing that kind of bothered me a little was the fact that Athena's Father's past alleged indiscretions and accusations from the Clayworth family. I really felt this could have been handled better within the story and left me a little cold. And although I could see the HEA coming a mile away it was nice to indulge in such a fun story.

Sherrill Bodine takes us on a journey through the Chicago Fashion world in this sweet romance, and although I felt there were a few loose ends that were never quite cleared up in the end I can't say that I didn't enjoy this quick delightful read.

Synopsis: "Fashion curator Athena Smith will do anything to get her hands on the Clayworth family's couture collection for her exhibit. So she's thrilled when she's called in to authenticate the gowns...until she falls ill while examining them and wakes up face-to-face with notorious Chicago bachelor Drew Clayworth.Drew doesn't trust Athena one bit. He still believes she betrayed him years ago. So when his family's gowns go missing and Athena offers her help in exchange for the dresses, he reluctantly accepts. But they're both taken off guard by the barely restrained passion that's still between them...and the memories that are both bitter and sweet. As they work together to find the dresses, can they resist the sparks between them?"

*both Authors will be in contact if not already.

Guest Author Stuart Archer Cohen & Contest

Today I would like to welcome to Book Junkie author Stuart Archer Cohen who talks a little about his latest release The Army of The Republic. You can read my review HERE. So please welcome Stuart and don't forget that I am giving away a copy of The Army of the Republic to one luck winner.

How do you get started with writing a story (as in, how do you start developing the story, how do you get inspired for it)? Do you start with an outline, synopsis, characters; what is your writing process like?

I usually start with a feeling, some sort of strong emotion about something that I keep coming back to, and I write to try to get to the heart of that feeling. I often also have different concepts that I want to explore: the religious nature of propaganda, or the human motivation behind corruption, for example. I don’t work with an outline, or even characters who are defined at the outset. Usually I just have a basic situation and I start making it up as I go along, and gradually start finding out where I’m going. I end up throwing away a lot of characters and material, but that’s the only way I know how to do it. It’s like going on a long journey to an unknown country that you’ve only heard rumors about.

What do you do to combat writers block?
I feel like I have writers block every day. In any given year, I have maybe two or three days when I feel really inspired. The rest, it’s just grinding it out. I’ve never had more than a couple of weeks when I’m really blocked, and that’s where good work habits save you. I go into my office and sit there for 6 hours or so, then I go home. I have a quota of 4 pp per day on a rough draft, and I’ll write any kind of garbage to meet the quota, even if it’s complete nonsense. But sometimes, after a few pages of free-associated drivel, you hit on that one sentence that shows you the direction you need to go forward in.

Are any of your personality and life experiences in your writing?
In my other life, I have a business importing from Asia, Mexico and South America. I travel to three continents every year, and my trading partners run the gamut from Chinese millionaires to Otavalan Indians in the mountains of Ecuador. So, most of my books have draw on these characters, and the experience or being in a foreign country. Even The Army of the Republic, which is set in the United States, was based heavily on what I’d seen in South America, and on research I did on Argentine revolutionaries.

Besides that, I notice that in all my books there’s usually a business-type character and a sort of artistic/rebellious character who is, in a sense, his alter ego. I think that’s how my own life is divided. I’m going to business meetings and developing products, and yet all the time I’m intensely pursuing this rather secret private vision that I can barely talk about.

What are you currently working on?
I’m in the midst of a novel that features a faded rock star who’s lost all his money and a fugitive American financier living large in Shanghai, and lots more. I’m about 150 pp into the rough draft, and it’s an exciting journey so far. However, I’m taking a little vacation from it to write a children’s book about dinosaurs on a crime spree. Think: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets Steal This Book.

Of the books that you have written, which is your favorite?
I’ve got a soft spot for The Stone Angels, just because of the way it all happened. I was pretty desperate when I wrote it. I’d closed my business and spent 3 ½ years writing The Book of Rumor, which I thought was brilliant but that no one would publish. Not an unusual story. So, running out of money and feeling like a complete failure, I flew down to Buenos Aires to research the area of corrupt cops and petty criminals. Suddenly I was drinking whiskey with old Fascists and snorting coke in the bathrooms of run-down bars with junkies and thieves. It was an incredible trip. I met a lot of people who are legendary down there, and then came back and wrote the rough draft in only three months, and finished it in eight, which I’ve never been able to duplicate. I just wanted to write a page turner, and since I had so little ambition, it far exceeded whatever I could have hoped for. It was also my most successful book commercially, translated into 9 languages and optioned by Paramount.

What influences your protagonist?
Their past. Their aspirations. Usually there is a strong degree of searching for esteem from other people, because I think that’s a huge motivator for everyone from baristas to billionaires. Novelists, too.

What do they consider to be their best accomplishment?
Coming to some realization about their own lives, and then acting on it.

What advice would you give to people who "run out of creativity" when writing?
Keep writing. If you keep beating your head against a brick wall, sooner or later it’s going to fall down.

Can you tell us a little about your newest release The Army of the Republic?
The Army of the Republic is a thriller about insurgency, set in the United States. It starts with the assassination of this truly evil corporate guy by the fledgling Army of the Republic, which seems righteous enough on the surface, but which sets off a chain of events that quickly spins out of control. On the other side of the equation is billionaire, James Sands, who is a government crony trying to protect his business, but gets drawn deeper and deeper into a program of corporate death squads and political repression. In the middle are the political organizers trying to bring down the government through democratic means and civil disobedience. At the heart of this is a single American family being torn apart by events and by their own desire to save each other and save the country.

What inspired you most in creating the world of “Corporate Terrorism”?
Just seeing the drift of the country through the last decade. It was so much like South America in terms of corruption, cronyism, lying and complete impunity. I felt like I was living in Argentina or Mexico, and in fact, that bailout, where the fox was bailing out the henhouse, was completely Argentine. I really felt like I needed to write about what it’s like when the elite succeed in getting everything they want. Along with that, the penetration of our military and intelligence forces by mercenaries like Blackwater and Haliburton scares the daylights out of me. That’s the last thing that the founding fathers or anyone else in the last 200 years had in mind, but it’s a sign of corporate takeover that Americans seem powerless to stop. I am trying to remain optimistic, but right now I don’t see anyone on the horizon who can mount a challenge to them. They control the story.

Do you usually cast your characters (a mental picture) before or after you have started writing? Does it help inspire you and take the story in a different direction?
I have to struggle to stay with the physicality of the characters, because I tend to veer off into more conceptual things. I do get a mental picture of them, but it’s less important than their emotional picture.

What was your favorite scene to write in The Army of the Republic? What was the most challenging?
Favorite scene? When Lando, the urban guerilla who is one of the book’s heroes, loses his faith and just goes off about “the People” he thought he was fighting for. Of all the scenes in the book, that diatribe is the one that readers have remarked on the most, because it embodies all our rage, even people on the Right.

Most difficult? The demonstrations. I felt like I was writing the Battle of Waterloo. You have to convey the stories of the individuals involved, the general political forces leading up to the demonstration, and also the power and excitement of mass actions, and the boredom, the fear, the nervous riot police. It’s really difficult to build tension in all those areas simultaneously and have it come to a climax. Definitely the most difficult scenes I’ve ever written.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?
The Argentine experience, above, is certainly up there. For my first book, Invisible World, I traveled to Inner Mongolia in the dead of winter, not having any idea what I was headed for. This was ‘91, before the internet really existed, so there was no e-mail and no easy internet research. I went back in the summer and found a guide and went horse-back riding on the Steppes for about five days. Oh, and trying to find the city of Xanadu. That certainly shows up in the book. I wrote the most important parts of Invisible World in hotel rooms and on airplanes.

For you, what is the hardest part of writing a novel? Concept, Characterization, Plotting, Writing the story, Synopsis/Query letter writing, etc.
Characterization, because it takes constant attention to detail all the way through, in every scene. Plotting is the easiest.

Review: GENTLEMEN PREFER SUCCUBI by Jill Myles

Book 1 of Jill Myles Succubus Diaries Series Gentlemen Prefer Succubi is smokin good, and just plain ole entertaining! Capturing your attention from the first few pages as we read about Jackie who sleeps with a stranger and that same stranger dumps her in a garbage dumpster where she wakes up only are his eyes. But now she is now a succubus and Noah a fallen angel wants to help her.

Jackie who doesn't want to be a succubus, is absolutely hilarious as she discovers she has an insatiable desire to have sex, has huge new boobs and her full figure is now lean as her pants practically fall down.

She has gotten herself tangled up in quite a mess having made a deal with powerful Uriel and the end result is a lot of trouble for everyone. Noah wants to save her from an very evil vampire queen who in turn captures him and is now holding Noah captive (thanks to Jackie) until Jackie retrieves an ancient relic from Africa. Jackie is pared up with her enforcer and sexy vampire Zane as the eyes and ears of the Vamp Queen and her friend Remy to find the Halo and bring it back.

Fun characters and insanely hot sex scenes kept this going for me, as I really felt that all the characters shined in their own respects, despite being angels, vampires, porn stars and succubi they all have their own individual personalities that seemed more real and comical. Sharp wit and clever plotting goes a long, long way. I am truly looking forward to Jill Myles 2nd book in the series Succubi Like it Hot. Can't wait!

Synopsis: "Who knew an angel could get a girl in so much devilish trouble?

Jackie Brighton woke up in a dumpster this morning, and her day has only gotten weirder. Her breasts grew overnight, her sex drive is insatiable, and apparently she had her first one-night stand ever . . . with a fallen angel.

Of course, she only remembers gorgeous Noah’s enormous, er, package. And their steamy shower sex. Hmm . . . and the dark stranger whose bite transformed her into an immortal siren with a seductive Itch.

With help from Noah and fellow succubus Remy Summore, Jackie adapts to her new lifestyle—until she accidentally strikes a deal that sends her lover into the deadly clutches of the vampire queen and lands Jackie, Remy, and the queen’s wickedly hot right-hand man into the middle of a fierce battle for an ancient halo.

But how’s a girl supposed to save the world when the enemy’s so hard to resist?"

Contest & Review: Deep, Dark, Delicious by Tina Donahue

Ok, let's cut to the chase here..... that title Deep, Dark, Delicious ......you know what you are going to get.... a sinfully delicious and erotic story with two highly passionate lovers . I knew right then and there was I was in for. Well, that and the fact that it's author is none other than Tina Donahue. She tells the story of Eden and Rafe. Eden is a chef and a damn good one, but when Rafe is the deciding vote in a competition in which she loses she is devastated. How can he do that to her, he knows she was the best one there! What little does Eden know is that Rafe has bigger plans for her as he learns that she is trying to open a B&B.? What does he do? He buys her time for a month, she will exclusively his, his personal chef and his lover. Or rather submissive lover for 30 days. At the end of that month if she has impressed him enough with her food, he will invest in her future. The 30 days of sex with Eden was a bonus for him as that is all he really cared about. He was so attracted to her and wanted her so deeply that he was willing to do just about anything to get her into his bed. So this plan worked perfect. There connection was immediate as Eden had
been longing for Rafe's hands on her, his touch, and their sexual encounters just about ignites that pages! So sensual, so naughty and so delicious all at once as Eden discovers that she is a true submissive only in Rafe's powerful hands. A true Alpha and dominate male he settles for nothing less and knows that Eden is perfect for him. Watching their feelings for each other come to fruition captured me as each and every session together the compassion they felt for one another was obvious.

Eden can't get past her own mother's abandonment, well aware that her feelings for Rafe have turned beyond just lustful and wanton, but to love. Deep, passionate, raw love for the man who has stolen her heart, yet she can't understand why he would want her in his life forever.

Knowing she was in love with him and that she would have to say good-bye just about broke her. She loved him and his family, but she felt it wasn't good enough for him. Her own mother didn't want her why would anyone else? A sense of self preservation she tries but failed to keep her heart out of the equation. She would be lonely without him, but her heart safe. But if Rafe has any say in it she will not only continue to submit to him in the bedroom, but open her heart to him as well..... Forever.

Book Junkie's Rating: 4.5/5

Synopsis: " A wickedly sensual feast…

Eden DeCarlo may have narrowly lost Miami’s best chef competition and the prize money she desperately needs, but she has caught the eye of dangerously virile Rafael Zayas, one of the judges and a wealthy restaurateur. Despite her vow not to let any man derail her life, Eden’s captivated by Rafe’s imposing masculinity, then challenged by the business deal he offers. He’ll invest in her new venture if, for one month, she can satisfy his culinary expectations and the sexual attraction they both feel.
Dominant and unashamed, Rafe knows what he wants when it comes to carnal pleasure and will spare no seduction to have Eden in all the ways he demands—naked, wanting, submissive.
Within thirty days, he will teach her the delights of yielding to passion, relinquishing all control to him and fulfilling her deepest, darkest and most delicious desires"

Heat with Heart

In today’s book-rich marketplace, every story needs a brand. . .a slogan, if you will, to differentiate it from countless other titles.

When I began writing erotic romance, I wanted my stories to be more than just page-to-page sex. Not that I’m opposed to a tumble between the sheets, on the kitchen table, in the pool – you get my drift.  To me, the sex scenes don’t sizzle unless there’s a building attraction between the hero and heroine, the beginning and nurturing of a breathtaking love, unlike any they’ve known before.

So, after much consideration, I decided to brand my romances as “Heat with Heart”.

In Deep, Dark, Delicious, the erotic part of Eden and Rafe’s relationship is extremely important. From the beginning, Rafe’s interested in her sexually, but soon learns he must woo Eden to win her heart. She’s cautious of love, having been hurt greatly in the past. To me, their physical relationship is how they exhibit their growing emotional intimacy before Rafe can admit his love to her and Eden can do the same with him. To strengthen these scenes, I added aspects of their growing bond, enriching the romance. The excerpt that follows is right after Eden has decided to go forward with their relationship. . .for the moment. Aware of her fear of commitment, Rafe behaves accordingly. Read on:

He stripped her gently and made love with more tenderness than passion, knowing she required it.

Rafe wasn’t blind. He’d seen the confusion and fear in her eyes, along with her building passion for him. To feed it required patience. For a man who’d had to fight for everything he owned, to convince the world he was worthy of its notice, he had perseverance in ample supply.

Throughout the night, he woke her with sweet kisses, mounting her after prolonged foreplay. They made love twice more, sleeping between each act. Only once did she leave the bed – to fetch the flan she’d made prior to his arrival. They devoured the custardy treat in bed, washing it down with icy beer. Their conversation settled around their love of cooking, Anna Marie’s problems with her mother, Trish’s amazing talent and other matters, while also avoiding any serious topics. Bellies filled, their thoughts at ease, they molded their bodies together again.

He slept better than he had in months and might have slumbered for days if not for the obnoxious racket of a lawnmower in one of the neighbors’ yards, punctuated by barking dogs and their owner ordering the animals to quiet down.

“Shit.” Rafe ran his hand over his face and opened one eye. Morning sun streamed through the gauzy curtains, bathing the room in a gold haze. He smiled at the hominess of this place and reached across the sheets for Eden.

She wasn’t in the bed.

He glanced at the bathroom. The door gaped open to show a darkened interior. He’d just got his legs over the side of the mattress when he noticed the pungent aroma of café Cubano, the sweet scent of fried onions and the wondrous fragrance of chorizo, a pork sausage seasoned perfectly with garlic and paprika.

Stomach growling, his head swung to the jamb as Eden padded into the room carrying a breakfast-in-bed tray. It held a small cup of Cuban coffee, a stout glass of orange juice and two plates covered with metal toppings to keep the food warm. Their breakfast? Or just his given the solitary cup and glass of OJ?

She stopped as she saw him half-in, half-out of her bed. He stared at the shimmery green robe she wore, tied at the waist, the hem reaching her knees. With a flick of his forefinger, he gestured her closer.

Her attention strayed from his chest to his lengthening cock. Upon reaching him, she murmured, “Buenos días.”

“Good morning.” He took the tray, placed it on the floor near the foot of the bed and returned to sit on the mattress. “Did you sleep well?”

Face turned to the dismissed tray, expectation coloring her voice, she said, “Very. And you?”

“Until the lawnmower, dogs and their owner woke me.” He fingered the sleeve of her robe. “What is this?”

She looked. “Silk.” Her voice was unexpectedly playful.

He wrapped the robe’s tie around his hand, using it to bring her closer. Her knees bumped the mattress between his legs. The peach tint in her cheeks deepened, proving her interest in their coming game, the reason she’d worn the garment in direct defiance of his demand she always be naked around him.

Rafe’s attention moved from the silk to the emerald stud on the side of her nose, replacing the diamond from yesterday. She’d also showered and washed her hair, the scent of shampoo and perfume lingered on it and her skin. Though she looked and smelled amazing, he liked how she’d been last night – her hair wild, her flesh fragrant with his kisses, his musk. So had she bathed in a downstairs bathroom or in the guesthouse so she wouldn’t disturb him? Or had she wanted to avoid him while she decided on whether to take another risk, especially when it came to what would happen during the next few minutes?

Unwilling to ask, he unfastened the tie, his movements deliberately slow, adding to her expectancy. The ends of the cloth slipped from his hands. Her robe fell open, revealing a slice of her nudity, the valley between her breasts, her navel, the fluffy bush between her legs. It took all of his willpower not to touch her. His voice recorded the strain. “I’m not referring to the fabric as you well know.”

The accusation hung heavy between them, charging the air. The lawnmower shut off. One dog continued its wild yelps, despite its owner’s scolding. Eden whispered, “You want me nude at all times.”

“And you’re not.” His face lifted.

Her long column of throat bobbed with her swallow. The morning light heightened her natural coloring and the rosy stain spreading across her chest. “Are you accusing me of defying you?”

“You know I am.”

“I can easily take off the robe and obey.”

“Too late.”

She inhaled sharply as he grabbed her upper arm, pulling her down. The mattress bounced with her elbows and torso hitting it. The bedframe creaked. Rafe brought his legs together to trap hers so she couldn’t move her ass. The robe had slipped up to expose the backs of her thighs. He trailed his fingers over the left one.

Throughout Deep, Dark, Delicious Rafe seduces Eden lovingly, playfully and passionately, until she becomes his – heart, body and soul.

Review & Contest: Wicked Proposal by Tierney O'Malley

There is something I love about the average girl since it is pretty common that many of the women we read about are thin. Not to say I wouldn't read it, but as an average girl myself, I usually feel more of a bond with the female character as I did in Tierney O'Malley's Wicked Proposal and Maddie.

Not so tall and not so skinny, Maddie has sass ( I think sassy is my new favorite word). She is a small flower shop owner who is friends with Diana, oh yes and madly in love with Wolf, Diana's brother. Just fresh of a breakup where her ex told her she was getting too fat and boring (ouch! that had to sting), she is overwhelmed by a little self pity and a lot of lust when she asks Wolf to make love to her while aboard his boat at a party.

Horrified and completely embarrassed as well as believing that Wolf just slept with her out of pity she is determined to put it behind her. Oh but she can't! How can she forget the way he touches her, the way he is go gentle physically as well as emotionally. Wolf can't believe that Maddie is FINALLY free of her fiancé. There is bad blood between the two of them from college and Wolf would like nothing better than to see him suffer. And if that means he can have his cake and eat it too then so be it. So Wolf convinces Maddie to help spread the rumors that SHE broke the engagement, not the other way around, thus giving her ex-fiancé his due in humiliation with the torrid gossip mongers. Not to mention in this little deal they are also to become a couple, letting everyone know they are in love, thus Maddie's reasoning for the breakup. There are secrets that Madeline keeps to herself, how and why her brother died all those years ago and her fear of water. It is almost paralyzing to her as she has carried such a heavy bourdon for so long. Guilt like that can eat away at a soul.

All is well in love and bliss, that is until reality hit. No amount of hot and steamy love making can lift the shadow of the dreaded fiancé Edward makes an appearance. Wind of their scheme has reached his ears, just as they hoped. Except Edward is a foul jerk, high and mighty, an egotistical jerk. Maddie has fallen in love and so has Wolf, but Edward is set to have the last word when he tells Madeline exactly WHY Wolf wanted to bed her. All the pieces to the puzzle are in place for Maddie, it all makes since now how someone has rich, successful and stunningly handsome could fall for frumpy, about to go broke with her flower shop, ole Maddie. And why would be propose? All a joke, a sick joke on her. Or is it really? ...................

Tierny has captured me once again with her brilliant character's and their ability to make you feel apart of their story. I felt as though I was living though Maddie at times, feeling her pain, her joy and her excitement at finally finding love and feeling loved in return. Wolf, what can I say, he was just the picture perfect nice guy, handsome as sin and wealthy! How could you lose! But with revenge in his heart he will have to decide if he can make room for love and let go of his hate for Edward. With so much passion, he wants nothing more than Maddie in his arms, but at what price?

Book Junkie's Rating: 4/5

SYNOPSIS: "Lies. Deception. And a proposal of a lifetime.
Madeline cannot believe she begged a man to make love with her then agrees to his proposal to save her pride and get even with her ex. And worse, even with her newly broken heart, she falls in love with him. Just as when she begins to believe Wolf has feelings for her, her ex shows up and reveals the truth behind Wolf’s intention.

All Wolf wants is to convince Madeline that her ex-fiancé is a fool for letting her go and that she is indeed beautiful. But when he feels her body move against him, he realizes he wants more than to help sooth her hurt pride. Now that her fiancé is out of the picture, he’s not going to let anybody in her life other than him. But will Madeline entrust him her already shattered heart despite his deception?"

Review: Reasons by Tracy Fabre

Reason's by Tracy Fabre is the story of Delphi and her struggle to find out what are the circumstances behind the hit and run accident that nearly killed her. She is going to stay with the family of the boys that were responsible for the accident, the Laughlin's, who are long time family friends. Determinded to uncover the truth, she puts aside her feelings, and as you know with secrets some are better left untold. But when they do come to light, the question really is, can you handle it? Can you forgive? Can you move on?
This is the inner struggle Dephi has to face as she becomes friends with Tam and starts to develope feeling towards him. Realizing that he could have been the one driving all those years ago. Tam is great and I knew I would like him from the begining, but I really thought he should have had a little bit of a stronger personality. Although I realize he was a little apathedic with an alcoholic brother and his fiesty hot head girlfriend Noreen. She was determined to make Delphi's life hell and she did a good job at it too.
I really liked Delphi but, as determined as she was at the begining to seak out the truth and stay with a family that she knew responsible for her accident, I wish she would have been a little stronger in actually finding out the truth. I loved her wit and down right sassiness and quick tongue (especially with Noreen). I just wanted her to be a little more insistant on finding out the connections to Artie's death and her accident.
A little mystery in trying to figure out for myself what was really going on with this family and all their secrets and the lite romance I think filled in all the holes for me making this one completely enjoyable story. All secrets surfice eventually, it how you deal with them that matters in the end.

Book Junkie's Rating: 4/5

Snyopsis: "Delphi Brent, seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident as a teenager, is ready to spend the summer with old family friends when her parents make a distressing confession: the driver of the car that nearly killed her was one of the three sons of the Laughlin family she's about to visit. They urge her to stay home and let the past be, but she resolves to go out West anyway to learn the truth about what happened the night she was struck and one of the Laughlin sons died. However, in reconnecting with the Laughlins, who operate a sprawling ranch in Colorado, Delphi learns a lot not only about brothers and families, but also about the reasons people keep secrets, and what to do with the truth once it's uncovered. She also falls in love with one of the Laughlin brothers, which wasn't part of the plan at all."

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
