Review and Giveaway: THE HEARING HEAT by Bonnie Dee

A HEARING HEART by Bonnie Dee (Liquid Silver Books),was one of the best books I have read this year. Made me cry, made me laugh, made me angry as hell.

The love story between the two main characters is so raw, so passionate, so wanton, so sexy and at many times to utterly sad. Catherine is from an upper class NY family who has come out west to find her calling as a teacher. A job she loves and one she is damn good at. She is sassy and strong, strong willed that is. She is honest to a fault sometimes, but always kind hearted with her words which don't often betray her emotion.

Jim who is a deaf/mute is also a livery stable boy/man, also works in the local salon cleaning floors and odd jobs trying to save, his life goal; to own his own livery stables and perhaps by out the one he works at now. Saving his pennies everyday, Jim has a heart of gold and just mainly keeps to himself. Until he is dragged down the street by a bunch of drunks behind a horse and almost killed.

Catherine comes to the rescue quite literally and saves him, the first time they meet she is helping tend to his wounds. Passion, want and need burn deep in both Jim and Catherine and now that she has started teaching him how to read and write as well as sign language the town is in a bit of an uproar. Mostly the town gossips that is, but they can cause some serious waves. There desire for each other is palpably, so sexy and honest that I left almost as though I was intruding on them like a voyeur, but still not able to keep my eyes of them or my hands over my ears. Loving every minute of even their slightest encounter both characters jumped out off the page and into real life.

But their love be damned if propriety has anything to say about it, Catherine knows that Jim's birth and station in life is below hers and he as well as their love will NEVER be acceptable. Stolen moments is all they have and Jim wanted to prove himself worthy of such a lady and making a deal with the devil might just cost him his life.

I could stop reading this book until the last word . bonnie Dee blew me away with this painfully beautiful love story that made such a powerful impression on my own heart that I still haven't stopped thinking about Catherine and Jim and won't for some time to come!!

The heart conveys messages beyond what ears can hear.
After the death of her fiancé, Catherine Johnson, a New York schoolteacher in 1902, travels to Nebraska to teach in a one-room school and escape her sad memories. One afternoon, violence erupts in the sleepy town. Catherine saves deaf stable hand, Jim Kinney from torture by drunken thugs.
As she takes charge of his education, teaching him to read and sign, attraction grows between them. The warmth and humor in this silent man transcends the need for speech and his eyes tell her all she needs to know about his feelings for her. But the obstacles of class difference and the stigma of his handicap are almost insurmountable barriers to their growing attachment.
Will Catherine flaunt society’s rules and allow herself to love again? Can Jim make his way out of poverty as a deaf man in a hearing world? And together will they beat the corrupt robber baron who has a stranglehold on the town? Romance, love and sensuality abound in this jam-packed, old-fashioned tale with plenty of heart and some deeply sensual sex.

I would have to say "Selene of Alexandria" was my most heart-touching book of the year, so far. Not really a romance, but very touching, and beautiful.

Most touching book?? Oh dear...well, I've read so many books this year so far, and the ones I love the most are those that are full of emotions. Those that give me the goosebumps at the end....like A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff. Not really a romance, but a very good story.

A book that really got to me this year was Lover Mine/JR Ward. Like in the book you're giving away, we have a man unable to talk and yet still trying to be seen as a man with the same needs and desires.

As a disabled person I've had my eye on this for quite some time. I'm intrigued to see how accurately the author deals with his disability.

Plus, since I'm from Nebraska like in the story I think I should get an extra contest entry. LOL!

The book that brought me to tears this year is a book written 30 years ago: "One Child" by Tori Hayden.

It's biographical and tells about a child she worked with as a special-needs teacher.

The book that touched me the most this year was "Bad to the Bone" by Bo Hoefinger. This is about the life of a golden retriever mix. The dog does not die in this book but I cried when I read about one of his "parents" being seriously ill. I love this book, think I could read it again and again.

I would love to read this book. My cubicle mate was deaf. I have retired last year but I still get updates about work and funny e-mails. I am not very good at languages but I did learn some signs from him.

This book sounds great. I'm off to Amazon to check it out. I've read so many books this year, but I guess the one that touched me the most was a book I read for my bookclub called Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. It's the story of a young Somalian woman who was raised a very strict Muslim, but who emigrates to Europe and starts to really question her faith.

"Fireworks Over Toccoa" made me sob like a baby. I took it so much to heart I took it back to the library and recommdened it to the grouchy, uninterested librarian. It was THAT good. A story of lost love during WW2....

Ooh, this sounds really good. I follow on Google.
I love a book that can make me cry. The last one that did that for me was Love Means...No Shame by Andrew Gray. Great MM book about a farmer and an Amish man on his time when he can leave the lifestyle to experience the world before they return to stay with the community. Cannot remember what that is called. Anyway great story.

It would have to be Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan. It was a very moving story and all that Elle went through in it was very hard to read at times.

I don't know if any books I've read recently touched my heart although quite a few have elicited aws from me. I suppose the last aw-inspiring book was "The Next Best Thing" by Kristan Higgens. When Lucy finally tells Ethan that she loves him, I nearly cries along with Ethan.

I have not found a book this year that's tugged at my heart strings. I guess it's the type of books I've been reading.

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
