3 NEW TITLES IN A BREAKTHROUGH TEEN-AUTHORED MEMOIR SERIES! LOUDER THAN WORDS !!!!!Rae is a story of a young girl plagued with immense anxieties and phobias. Not unlike many young girls this day in age who deal with such pressure and anxiety from out society. This was a haunting read for me, disturbing, raw, all to real and beautiful at the same time. Raw and disturbing because it reminded me of myself and no one likes looking in the mirror, especially me.
Beautiful because I wish I had this book when I was a young girl. Like me Rae grows up feeling anxious going to school, in class, making friends. Are other people talking about her, her weight, her clothes, is she so different and weird, a freak. That is a familiar feeling, one I hid well for a long time. The distress of school alone could be paralyzing with it's fear. Like Rae so many young girls feel the pressure to wear the right clothes and talk about all the right things it is simply overwhelming.
It is a long road to get past there things, especially for Rae who's past living with her mother's drinking has taken a tremendous toll on her as well.
A wonderfully raw and honest look at social anxieties in girls that will tear at your heart and open your eyes to their struggles, they are very real, they are happening more than you realize and they are all around you.
Rae is beyond socially awkward. Since she was a little girl, Rae Swiggett knew something was different about her. The sound of planes flying overhead could spark a panic attack. Being called on in class was enough to push her over the edge. She feared the unknown, life, death, people . . . even fear itself. By the time she reached ninth grade, Rae was muddling through life in relative silence, convinced everyone was mocking her, judging her, picking her apart, bit by little bit. Rae knew she couldn't keep going on this way. She knew something had to give. 'It's a game of catch-22 I constantly play with myself. If I keep acting normal, I hope one day I will be, but every time I try, I just let myself down. I'm so entirely sick of this game.

This sounds like a very interesting book and takes me back to when I was in school. When I was younger I hated to be called on in school and I couldn't stand having to get up in front of the class and talking. I was so shy and self conscious.

This book reminds me of myself when I was a teen, I struggled so much with anxiety that I had to be homeschooled. Now I am in my 20's and still struggling with anxiety but its geting easier. I would love a chance to read how someone else has gotten through this difficult battle and how she managed to overcome it.

what a great series. Seeing how others deal with the problems many teens face is always a plus. Will have to bring this series to the attention of the local libraries.
