Author Interview & Giveaway: The Hypnotist by M.J. Rose

Today I am happy to have here at Book Junkie, author M.J. Rose! She is celebrating her release of The Hypnotist, an addictively suductive suspense that will blow you away! So please welcome M.J today and enjoy the interview! You can read my review HERE and don't forget to enter the contest to win a copy of The Hypnotist.

If someone were writing a story about M.J. Rose, what would your blurb say?
Frustrated painter turns to writing and experiences every set back in the book but just never gives up.

Can you tell us a little about your newest release The Hypnotist ?
I can’t do better than what Publisher’s Weekly had to say about it:
Starred Review. In this stunning page-turner, Rose's third Reincarnationist novel (after The Memorist), special agent Lucian Glass of the FBI's Art Crime Team continues to pursue Malachai Samuels of the Phoenix Foundation as well as the list of Memory Tools (deep meditation aids that help people access past-life memories) that Malachai covets. After a stolen Matisse painting arrives back at New York's Metropolitan Museum slashed to bits, the thief warns that four more stolen paintings by major artists will be destroyed unless the museum gives him Hypnos, an eight-foot-tall sculpture, which could help a person gain paranormal powers. The Matisse was taken 20 years earlier from the gallery of Andre Jacobs, father of Lucian's first love, Solange, who was killed during the heist. Lucian becomes attracted to Emeline, Andre's niece and adopted daughter, whose mannerisms and facial expressions eerily resemble Solange's. As Lucian recovers previous-life memories, his present life takes ever more shocking turns. This series inspired Fox TV's Past Life, which debuted in February. (May)

What is the most challenging things for you as an author in creating and continuing on with a series?

Well its not really a series – there are new main characters in each book – so the challenge is doing the research and creating the characters without taking 3 years per book.

If you could trade places with one of your characters, would you want to?
Absolutely. I’d love to be Lucian Glass in The Hypnotist.

What was the first thriller/mystery book you read and how did it effect you?
Nancy Drew. And it was my mom's copy from when she was a little girl. I was hooked!!! I read every single one.

Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
I wrote three books before the one that got me an agent – but I never tried to get those published. They were learning books.

What is the most interesting thing you've done in the name of research?
Worked as a phone sex operator for an hour.

What are you currently working on?
My next book – I think its bad luck to talk about them before them come out.

If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
How can I get you to watch TV and surf the net less and buy more books?

Haunted by the murder of his lover — a beautiful young painter — Lucian Glass keeps his dark memories at bay by focusing on his work with the FBI’s Art Crime Team. Currently investigating a crazed art collector destroying priceless masterpieces, he becomes involved in a bizarre hostage negotiation that takes him undercover at the Phoenix Foundation. Under hypnosis he travels back to ancient Greece and nineteenth-century Persia, past life while the case takes him New York to Paris and the movie capital of the world. These combined journeys will shatter his understanding of reality. force him to question his sanity and lead him into the center of an intricate plan to break in to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and steal Hypnos, the 1,500 year old sculpture of the Greek God of sleep, said to hold a secret that many would literally kill to uncover.

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
