She is here to talk a little about her latest release DESTINY, you can read all about it in my review HERE. So please give Victoria a warm welcome, enjoy the interview and don't forget to enter the giveaway!!!!
Can you tell us a little about your newest release DESTINY?
Destiny is a Civil War-era historical that blends romance with adventure. Emma Davenport, the sheltered daughter of a powerful Northern senator, runs away to marry Christopher Staton, a charismatic businessman – a traitor with his own ruthless reasons for wanting Emma as his bride. Traveling to her rendezvous with Staton, she’s abducted by a daring train robber with a bitter grudge against the man she plans to marry. Unknown to Emma, Jack Travis isn’t what he seems – he’s a cavalry officer tasked with keeping Emma out of Staton’s clutches. Driven by duty and a deep-seated hatred of Staton, Jack risks his life to protect Emma, even as he falls in love with his spirited, challenging captive. She’s forbidden to him, but sometimes, even a man on a mission has to follow his heart.
What do you qualities were a must when creating your Major Jack Travis?
When I created Jack Travis, I saw him as a by-the-the-book soldier who’s known for his responsible, no-nonsense manner, duty driven with a highly developed sense of honor. His commitment to duty leads him to accept a mission that goes against his grain. In the beginning, he defends Emma because it’s his duty, but it isn’t long before he falls for her courage and spirit.
Major Jack Travis is a man who doesn’t love easily, but when he does, it’s a complete commitment. He’s courageous and would die to protect the woman he loves. He’s also intelligent, sensual, physically powerful, and confident. He’d never shrink from a challenge – that quality is one of the things that draws him to Emma. It was very important to me that Jack isn’t threatened by a woman who’s his equal in intelligence and resourcefulness.
What was your favorite scene to write?
There are so many scenes that I enjoyed writing, this is a difficult question to answer. I loved the initial abduction scene. Jack’s outlaw persona is anything but a gentleman, but his protectiveness and decency show through. And what woman wouldn’t enjoy the fantasy of being carried off by a handsome train robber? Later, as they’re getting to know each other, he’s had a bit too much to drink, breaking down his determined reserve, and he kisses her – the power of their attraction is a revelation to both Emma and Jack. But I’d have to say my favorite scene takes place right after he’s taken her captive. After Jack abducts Emma, they’re pursued by the villain’s henchmen, and Jack takes a bullet to the arm. He fixes a crude bandage on the wound, but her compassionate nature leads her to redress his injury. In the process of ripping strips of her petticoat to cover his wound, she accidentally cuts her own finger. When Jack bandages her small wound, his gentleness and care stun Emma. She doesn’t expect tenderness from an outlaw, while she’s nothing like the spoiled, sheltered girl he’d been told to expect. I love this scene because it’s the first in which Jack and Emma begin to fall in love.
When reading a book I often imagine the characters in my head as thought I am watching a movie play out. If you could cast Emma & Jack for a movie who would play them on screen?
Jake Gyllenhaal would make a perfect Jack, and Rachel McAdams from The Notebook and The Wedding Crashers would be a wonderful Emma.
If you could trade places with one of your characters, would you want to?
Absolutely, I’d love to trade places with Emma. Jack Travis is the kind of man I’ve always dreamed of…I’d be his captive any day of the week.
What is the most interesting thing you’ve done in the name of research?
Hmmmm…I’ve certainly tested some scenes with my husband…
What is it about writing Romance that appeals to you?
I love writing Romance because I love reading Romance. Love is a powerful emotion that empowers you. There’s nothing like the wonderful feeling of being in love, but the paths that lead two people to love are often far from straight and easy roads. Often, lovers have to overcome many conflicts, both external and internal, to find their love and make it last. This is the basis of a love story.
What are you currently working on?
I’ve recently completed the copyedits for Destiny’s sequel, Angel in My Arms, the story of a ring of beautiful female spies operating out of Richmond during the Civil War. I enjoyed creating Jack’s partner, Steve, so much, I had to give him his own book. Steve is very different from Jack, with a more lighthearted, Owen Wilson persona, but he shares Jack’s fundamental values of conviction, courage, and honor. Angel in My Arms is due to be released in November.
I’m now writing the third book in the Destiny trilogy. Against All Odds features characters introduced in Angel in My Arms and a new contemporary romantic comedy. I expect to complete both books by the end of the summer.
What was the first romance book you read and how did it effect you?
Sons of the Wolf, a Gothic by Barbara Michaels. I was moved by the romance between the hero and heroine, and the heroine’s selfless courage, though honestly, upon a recent rereading, I found myself frustrated by the heroine’s essential helplessness and the hero’s uselessness. Circumstances, not the hero or heroine, defeat the villain. I’m sure in a similar circumstance, Emma Davenport wouldn’t have waited around for a convenient rescue – she would have found a way out from under her evil guardian’s control with the hero by her side.
If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
What quality makes a book a “keeper” for you?

If I really love a book it's a keeper, but I'm also a sucker for signed books. I almost always keep autographed books, especially if they're made out to me. :)

Even when I'm friends with the author, there's something really special about a signed book.

Thanks for the chance to win this book. I really want it! For a book to be a keeper for me, I have to be drawn in from just a few pages in. The book has to be a page turner.

What makes a book a keeper to me is:
June 30, 2010 11:41 AM1. the story itself.
2. Some times I will keep a favorite authors books but not always every book.
3. I also don't giveaway any signed copies as I consider them a keeper from the time I receive them.
I have given over 2000 books to friends of the Library and a local new/used book store because I did not have room to store. I refused to get a storge room because the elements (rain, cold, high heat in summer take a toll on them (I did store in storage unit for 1 yr).
Now I have more space and building book shelves in my new computer/office room so can keep more.

Keepers for me are my signed books and I have several series that are my favorites that I keep! tWarner419@aol.com
June 30, 2010 12:06 PMA book that becomes a keeper is book that has great character development and a plot that becomes vivid and real in my eyes. I find many authors seem to have wonderful plots, but the execution of the plot is not believable. I must have a lot of keepers as my book shelves full of books. Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway.

What makes a book a keep to me is the story line itself. A book that draws you into the story. A book that you cant put down. A book that keeps you intrigued to the end. This book sounds like a keeper to me. Please enter me in contest. Thank you. Tore923
June 30, 2010 12:37 PMAlthough all my books are keepers, the ones I share or talk about are the ones that tend to stay with me. Some books as soon as you finish you never think of it again, but others stay and stay. More than anything else, it's the characters. I enjoyed your interview!
June 30, 2010 12:57 PMA book is a keeper for me if it has at leaast one scene that gives me an almost physical "zing" in my heart. It doesn't have to be erotic or even sexual at all, it just has to stimulate my heart in some way and I want to go back and read it over and over.
June 30, 2010 1:04 PMWhich makes me sad because in a fit of depression a month ago, I threw all my romance books, "keepers" and all in the dumpster saying "Romance is a lie". I wish I hadn't done that!
Thank you for the giveaway.

there are a lot of great books out there, but some of them are special - they have the icing on the cake... I don't know how to describe it... I can't let go of it during reading and I can't wait to read the next book!
June 30, 2010 3:20 PMgreetings, Ina
Signed books are always a keeper of course.
June 30, 2010 3:56 PMOtherwise, a keeper for me is a story that has really moved me emotionally in some way.
That said, I am a confessed bookaholic and I just can't seem to part with any book. Soon, I must cull my shelves because they are all groaning under the weight!!!

A keeper for me has to have, hands down, a likeable heroine. The hero is rather important too, but my keepers absolutely must have a smart, strong, non-annoying female lead, and if she is not these things, there must be a good reason for it. I'm trending towards mainly historicals that are set in unusual time periods or settings, and I also love a good beta hero. There should be interesting events occurring at a good pacing in the story or I will quickly lose interest. Destiny has an interesting premise - we don't get as many historical romances set in places/time periods other than Regency or Victorian England, so right away that caught my eye. I'd love a chance to try this one out.

July 1, 2010 12:47 AMA book makes it to my keeper shelf if the story and characters become very real to me and touch my heart. There has to be a personal connection with the main characters. The story line and action must keep me involved, interested, and guessing.
I like the sound of this story. It and your next one will be on my TBR list.
A keeper is a book that I love and want to read again and again. I fall in love with the hero/heroine/story and it’s a book that always leaves me satisfied but wishing for more….be it historical, romance, erotica, etc. A couple of examples would be: Outlander, always leaves me happy but wanting to know more about Jamie/Claire; The first 3 books in the Promise Series keep my hopes up that great (erotic novels) are out there and I’m always on the hunt for more like-kind stories. It’s all personal preference, but for me…keepers are books you fall back on to read when nothing else on your TBR stack appears to meet those emotional needs.

A book needs to be well written, have well rounded characters, and have a satisfying ending.
July 1, 2010 3:22 PMA book being a really big keeper...if it makes me laugh and/or cry. Really feel something. That means I will keep it and likely read it again and again.
I also like it if the author can suprise me in a book...which doesn't happen often in a romance, but I am always a sucker for a book that can have a suprise twist that makes total sense when you read it but you weren't expecting.
(Autographed books are great too...but not a must in order for me to keep a book.)
A "keeper" for me is any book that I really enjoyed reading and may want to re-read again in the future.

For a book to qualify as a "keeper" it has to have entertained me enough so that I know I will want to pick it up again and re-read it. Usually that happens when I enjoy the author's writing style, or the characters are really well developed and entertaining or the plot is gripping. There are many possibilities for me to fall in love with a book, but the defeinite deciding factor for a book to be a keeper is if want to re-read it: if yes, then I won't part of it! :-)

July 2, 2010 8:13 PMWhat makes a book a keeper?
Well, first of all, I have to be capture by the story. I want to want to read it over and over again. Looking for new clues, revisiting the romance, or trying to get advice for writing..
I think I have to know, when I hold it, that this book is special. That it can continue to entertain and teach me!

What Stella (Ex Libris) said.
July 2, 2010 9:29 PMA keeper has a compelling prose style, a language I want to enjoy again, or characters that are deeper or more complex than I can understand in one reading, or a plot that I want to revisit. Eudora Welty is a great example. Jane Austin, or Thomas Hardy. But always some kind of Romance!
