This is the story of Saddie Hoffmiller, she is a widow and mother of grown children out of the house. Not just that, but she is a seriously feisty busy-body and all around know-it-all. She's got sass and spunk and seemed just about fearless sometimes. Especially with the police!
Police you say, yes one of Saddie's young neighbors who has just moved in with her son Trevor has been found dead. Dead, as in murdered with her lemon tart still cooking in the oven!!! To make matters worse little Trevor is missing.
As you can imagine Saddie is on a mission. She feels that the police just aren't doing enough to find the killer and find Trevor. I just have to say that this was a cozy and sweet read, seeing Saddie's dedication to her friend Anne's death and missing sun lead to come pretty hiliarious antics and tight situations for her, but she prevaled with pure spunk and zest that I feel was a huge anker for the book. There was also a very imaginative cast of characters that rounded out Lemon Tart that had me rushing to the bookstore for English Trifle, book two in the Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series. I just can't get enough and the mystery murderer had me until almost the end.
Stay tuned to Book Junkie tomorrow April 08, I am going to have guest author Josi S. Kilpack and a giveaway!!

In this debut volume, cooking aficionado-turned-amateur detective, Sadie Hoffmiller, tries to solve the murder of Anne Lemmon, her beautiful young neighbor - a single mother who was mysteriously killed while a lemon tart was baking in her oven. At the heart of Sadie's search is Anne's missing two-year-old son, Trevor. Whoever took the child must be the murderer, but Sadie is certain that the police are looking at all the wrong suspects - including her!

April 8, 2010 12:28 PMA culinary mystery? Huh, will wonders never cease. I vaguely recall, last year, hearing about the mashup of cookbooks with fiction. I guess this fits into that category. :)
