Review & Contest: Hannah's List by Debbie Macomber

This is my third Debbie Macomber book and so far I have yet to be disappointed! Hannah’s List opens up a year after Hannah’s death, her husband Dr. Michael Everett is still grieving the loss, but even more startling to him is the letter that is given to him by his brother in law. It is a letter from Hannah, one she wrote shortly before her death containing a list of three names of ladies that she thinks would be suitable wives for Michael upon her death. Still torn up inside and also feeling guilty, Michael believes he should have known she was sick, he is a doctor, he should have known! But her cancer was too far advance and they only had a short time together before he lost her.

Not sure why she wrote him the letter and why these particular women, Michael feels that he owes it to her to at least get to know them. But the problem is that he isn't quite sure that he can. They are three totally different women! So differnt from Hannah, but that was the idea right? I thought they all had their own individual charm, but I must say that I was swayed back and forth a few times with two of them. There is Winter Adams, which happens to be her cousin, Leanne Lancaster who was Hannah’s Oncology Nurse and then Macy Roth who Michael has never met before. As much as I would love to tell you who he ends up with in the end I can’t, but I will tell you that his journey was a tremendously heartfelt one that will tug at your hart all they way through.

It is so evident that Michael loved Hannah more than life itself, he almost feels like he is betraying his wife and their love. But Hannah knew that Michael would need to find a place in his heart for a new love and a new life. At the age of 36 he still had a lot of life to live. Now the road isn’t easy for any of the ladies or Michael. Actually it is downright painful at times that my eyes flooded with tears, but Debbie Macomber has a way of making it all better.

The idea of death and moving on with your life at any age has be such a grueling process and such a sensitive one at that, but the author never fails to create such engaging characters that you are swept away into their lives as though they were living breathing creatures.

On the anniversary of his beloved wife’s death, Dr. Michael Everett receives a letter Hannah had written him. In it she reminds him of her love and makes one final request. An impossible request. I want you to marry again. She tells him he shouldn’t spend the years he has left grieving her. And to that end she’s chosen three women she asks him to consider. During the months that follow, he spends time with Winter, Leanne, and Macy, learning more about each of them . . . and about himself. Learning what Hannah already knew. He’s a man who needs the completeness only love can offer. And Hannah’s list leads him to the woman who can help him find it..

sounds like a real tearjerker. Since my mother passed away at 36 I can imagine this very well. But I saw my stepfather go through the dating process and all that entails. Not a great process and I would be interested to see how the author handles this.

I wish my dad had left such a list for my mom when he died. She was only 46 but you would have thought she was 86. She just simply didn't want to go on living without him and although she lived for 20 years after he died....she became very reclusive and only (existed) day to day. I would love to be entered in your drawing.

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
