Angelique was turned into an angel when she freaked out at the personal of Bertrand Berringer all those years ago, next thing she knew her life changed forever and due to the family curse Bertrand's memory was wiped of Angelique forever. She has been tumbling through time cursed for an eternity until an Angel approaches her and offers her the life she has always wanted back. But with that life comes a price, she must make Nick Berringer fall in love with her and ask her to marry him in two days. He will be forced to replace her, take her place. If she fails then she will forever be stuck as well as every Berringer cured. No happiness, no love, their line will die out.
Nick has a hard heart, he doesn't trust women, doesn't want a woman and doesn't need one. Until the stunning Angelique is found in his home, now he is having second thoughts and can't believe his heart or his eyes. He's falling in love.
What I found so sweet about this story was the two main characters Nick and Angelique, both want love so much their hearts are screaming for it, Angelique fear of the betrayal that she must commit and the love she will lose if Nick is to replace her. Then Nick, he felt abandoned by his mother as a child, so his grudge and hope for any female to crack his cold heart is fierce. Something about Angelique pulls as him, he knows and feels in his soul that there is something about her that he fears will make him happy. He just needs to learn to trust and let go to ensure that happens. I found him completely endearing and charming, his need so abundant for Angelique.
The choice Angelique makes just broke my heart and the awareness of both Nick and Angelique that this curse and their lives have been intersecting over time.
One of my favorite quotes was
Because one lifetime was only a fraction of
existence and love truly lasts forever pp73
Angelique has been alone for one hundred and fifty years. The closest to heaven she has ever been is in Nick’s arms. How can she sacrifice Nick’s happiness – and his life – for her own freedom?
