If someone were writing a story about Denysé Bridger, what would your blurb say?
Have you ever wondered what it's like to live with endless voices and endless stories racing around in your mind? Discover the whirlwind of a writer constantly at work, and the passion that keeps the words flowing for you to enjoy them...
What do you do to combat writers block?
I never have writer's block, so I can't answer that. My problem tends to run the other way, I have too many ideas to ever chase them down and write them all! I don't ever wish for it to end, but I do wish I had more time!
Are any of your personality and life experiences in your writing?
A lot my life is slowly creeping into some of my stories. At least some trait of my personality shows up in a character from time to time, as well. I think it's inevitable, you have to draw on your own responses to create emotional boundaries for your characters, and the only real guide you have for those things is your own values and views, so that's how you gauge them and define them - which means something has to be coloured by your personal set of standards.
What are you currently working on?
Wow – that’s a tough one, because there are so many projects in the works just now. I have the next fantasy novel plotted and ready to begin work on, plus there are always about a dozen shorter pieces on the go. I have my first werewolf story started, two sequels to Games of Seduction, one called “Treasures of the Heart” that is a cougar story, I’m toying with a ménage tale, and a really special one called “Viper’s Nest” that is for a soldier friend who is going to be shipped out to Afghanistan on the first of June. There’s a trailer for that on my YouTube page, and the photos are of the real man this book is for. I never seem to have enough time to tell all the stories I want to explore, so there’s no end in sight at this stage.
How do you come up with your ideas for writing your story?
Story ideas for me come from everywhere. What I see, images I pick via the internet, sounds, music is especially important to me, because songs or voices can inspire entire stories - the sound of my friend Riccardo Foresi's singing was what triggered a short vampire story set in Venice that was published with Ravenous Romance, it's called "Hidden In The Mist" and it's a very erotic story, with a vampire-like hero.
What's your favorite part of a book?
I think my favourite part is the beginning, when it's all fresh and you're getting to know the characters. Everything is just building up and can go either way - it's a bit like a first kiss - is it going to be magic, or the end of something??
When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning?
Only once, with Amarantha - the heroine in As Fate Decress - because I needed a powerful name that meant forever in some way. She's immortal in a fashion, so the name had to reflection that timelessness...
Have you ever encountered someone who said, “You write what!!!"?
Yeah, I have - most people who know me are a bit in awe of it all.... apart from the concept of erotic romance, it's just the whole - OMG, you're a writer thing, too..... it's very funny at times. The guys like to be smart ass about it, and they look at you funny - until you remind them that they're not going to be your next research partner, then it's back to laughs....
Describe your perfect hero.
My perfect hero for real, or in stories? In stories, he's the man who is in control of the situation, usually is as ease with himself and anything he encounters. Most of my heroes are decidedly alpha male - it's what I like to read, and what I love to create. In my real life, the Italian I am nuts about is decidedly Alpha, very sexy, and very smart - it's a lethal combination.... and he's as handsome as he is smart and sexy. (Added bonus!)
You're invited to the White House for dinner, and you can only bring one of the following men with you as a date - David Hasselhoff or Mel Gibson (and the drinks are free and flowing).
Hasselhoff, at least he sings! What I have to say about Mel Gibson isn't fit to print or worth my time to type....
What is the worst pick-up line a man ever used on you, and did it work?
If I told you you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me - and I am not kidding, sadly. I asked him if he meant would I hold my beautiful body against him, or his bad pick up line - because either way the answer was no. I don't think anyone should be condemnded for a line that bad, but I wasn't charmed by it, either! LOL
If you could ask the readers one thing, what would it be?
If you could create the story and have the author write it for you - what would you most like to read?

My book of preference is one that startles me - with beautiful language, unexpected plot turns, maybe a dash if insight or philosophy, characters I can care about and things I would not have imagined myself. I'd like more contemporary druid fiction as well.

I live in Japan and would really like to see a book which include martial arts and heroes or heroines with Asian roots.

Hi Denyse
April 28, 2010 9:49 AMGreat interview and excerpt!
My favorite type of story - Alpha male, broken in some way and a heroine who has the only tools to fix him. It would have to be a historical romance with the hero's malady undetectable by everyone but the heroine. He covers well.
I just described my heroes, but that is my favorite stories to read.
The book sounds great and is on my to-read list.

A ninja?! I must have it!
April 28, 2010 10:31 AMMy ultimate story? A ninja and a unicorn-shifter (but the ninja doesn't know about the shifting to human part) travel on an epic journey to find "the crystal". Many battles & riddles ensue. They finally discover the crystal is a person and they fight a bit before becoming a loving menage that rules the kingdom!

The type of story I would like is one that includes a hot vampire, a lot of sex, humor, and a lot of twists and turns leading in to a sequel.

April 28, 2010 11:05 AMHello everyone. Some wonderful and very insightful comments and ideas here. Thank you all for dropping by! I've done vampires, sexy and scary, historical and contemporary. I've done straight historical, mixed up tons of genres, so this is all very cool stuff here!
April 28, 2010 12:05 PMTamsyn, I agree, it is time for Asian heroes to get their time in the spotlight, too. I can't remember the last time I saw an Asian hero as the lead character of a book. Certainly something to think about there.
Everyone else - many thnaks for your interest and your time!! Will be back later....
Any questions for me, fire away....
Hugs,
Denyse

Hi Denyse,
April 28, 2010 3:17 PMWanted to stop by and give support on your fantastic new release...as for the question, 'If you could create the story and have the author write it for you - what would you most like to read?' I think I would like to read something I don't write. Something weird or spooky! Like a Horror fiction love story. Goofy, huh?
Hey, Denyse! Great interview and I enjoyed getting to know more about you and the way you work. Trust me, you never want to get writer's block. That malady sucks!
April 28, 2010 3:32 PMUsually if it's a story I want to see written, then I'm writing it myself. LOL The three things I love the most in a book are paranormal aspects of any nature and a hot alpha male and female clashing until they come together with fireworks zinging off the pages.
Best of luck with ALL your books!

April 28, 2010 6:44 PMGotta love that pick up line for at least the chuckle it gave you! lol.
Great interview!
:0)
Great interview Denyse. I saw your email and decided to come and comment.
April 28, 2010 7:32 PMI would want a story about a big hunky cowboy, who is down on his luck and meets an older woman who owns a ranch that puts him to work using his body and his min d to make him her own. A real hot cougar woman such as I would wish I were. My email address is diana4366@att.net.
Great interview, Denyse. Ditto what Gracen said: Your lack of writer's block is enviable to the max.
April 28, 2010 7:56 PMI'd love to read a hot psychological thriller of some sort. Or something steamily political ... or politically steamy. You get the picture.
Bounding success to you!

I have always been intrigued about counter intelligence. I think a novel about two people that fall in love romantically but later the woman finds out that man that she thought she new very well turned out to be spy for CIA and was looking into arms sales that were being made to third world country. These arm sales were being sold by the woman’s father’s firm. She now needs to make a decision to protect her father and end her relationship with the man that she loves or to keep quiet and ruin her father’s business. There is one underlying problem that also exists … when she was growing up her father had physically abused her, but more recently he had asked her for her forgiveness and she felt like she was beginning to know a father that she never knew before. I would title this book, “The Men I Never Knew.”

Wow - some fabulous ideas and thoughts here - ALL very interesting, so thank you to EVERYONE who came by to see me while I played here! ;) I think you've all got great ideas for books, and I'm sure they'll all be written... Steven - write that story, you've got the makings of something really dramatic with that scenario!
April 29, 2010 6:12 PMIt has been a distinct pleasure to see old friends here and meet new ones. I hope we'll catch up again in the cyber-verse...
Blessings to all,
Denysé
I just got my computer back from the repair shop and sure did miss it for three days and all my friends here. I love most any kind of books but cowboy western/love stories are great. susan L.
April 29, 2010 11:16 PMDenysé,I have thought several times about writing, but the English language has been a nemesis of mine. I actually got As in college in all my writing courses, but I had work really hard for those As. I doubt that I would able to write a novel that would stand up against the talented authors like you. I thank you for comment and I wish you many more years of success as writer.
