Hot Damn! Thank you Lora Leigh

I don't know if you remember but a couple of months ago I decided to read through the entire Breed Series by Lora Leigh and I posted a question out there about Jessica ( I had a brain fart and called her Jennifer... DAH!) & Hawke. I had just finished reading Aiden's Charity and at the end Jessica was taken into custody and Hawke realized that was is mate. Um...nothing else about them in the following books.......until now. Well, thank the heavens because LL has finally come out with their story!!!! Released this week is HOT FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!!!!

Review: Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force

Emotional damn roller coaster, that is what this book was! Plan and simple, yet I loved every page of it! Sucker! That is what I am. Marie Force has captivated me with Line of Scrimmage, creating a strong but wounded Susannah who thinks her life will be at peace with her new marriage to Henry, her long time friend and High School boyfriend. But little does the debutant know that her current husband (soon to be ex) has shown up 10 days before their divorce is to be finalized to re-claim his wife and their marriage. Ryan blackmails her into giving him these last ten days to see if they can rectify what went horribly wrong. They have been separated for a year now and Susie thought she was getting the "safe" marriage she desired. But what she really desires is her husband Ryan. Ryan is a football star for the Denver Mavericks, actually more than a star, a God really to the football league and hailed as one of the best if not the best quarterback of all time. He is madly in love still with his wife Susie and after winning what becomes his last game, the Super Bowl in which he got severely injured, has made his escape from the hospital to force Susie to realize they still have something worth fighting for. Problem is that there are a couple of open wounds in their marriage that they have yet to talk about. First the loss of their son while Susie was eight months pregnant, second the alleged affair Ryan had with a super fan after the death of their son, and third the continual neglect that Susie felt as Ryan picked his career in Football over her. The ups and downs that these two take will take you on a wild ride as anyone who has miscarried can sympathize with the pain. It was really beautiful to see the two FINALLY talk about their feeling from the loss and try to heal some of the old pain that both had buried under the rug for two years. Then just as you feel that your happy ending is in sight here comes the current fiance Henry ans super fan (aka stalker) Betsy to ruin their HEA. Again old wounds as Ryan never fully explained his association with Betsy and Susie never asked him to. So she assumed that all the rumors must have been true all along about the affair. Mistrust and miscommunication come to an ugly head as the two struggle through once again. Ryan's emotions were so raw as well as Susie's and not blown out of proportion. I felt that both characters were captivating and just downright real! No Hero that comes in and saves the day, Ryan was intense and addictive as well as the boy next door personality so much more than your typical romantic Hero. Susie, she is every woman who has felt neglected, wounded by the loss of her son before his birth, and a woman scorned. Although she learns that trust is more important that ideal gossip, and not just that, but to trust her husband with her feelings. To share her anger and sadness of the loss as well as letting herself be open to misunderstandings and giving Ryan the chance to explain instead of jumping to conclusions. Lastly Marie's research was right on as well. Ryan had attended the University of Florida as the star quarterback, and since I went to school there I have to say she hit the nail on the head for details. Plus the sports aspect, it wasn't overwhelming, BUT it was a huge part of the book since afterall our Hero was a Football Star. Once again, details right on the money (per my husband who I asked several times), and honestly didn't take away from the book.

5 STARS- LOVED IT! COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

SNIPPET: "She's given up on him and moved on...
Susannah finally has a peaceful, calm life and a no-surprises man. Marriage to football superstar Ryan Sanderson was a whirlwind of passion, heat, energy, and excitement, but Susannah got sick of playing second fiddle to his team, watching women throwing themselves at him, and living in terror of the hard hits he took on the field. With their divorce just days from being final, she's already planning a wedding with her new fiance...
He's finally figured out what's really important to him. If only it's not too late...
Ryan has just ten days to convince his soon-to-be ex-wife to give him a second chance. He has just brought home his third championship and his career is at its pinnacle, but during the year of their separation, Ryan's come to realize it doesn't mean anything at all without Susannah..."

I would like to Welcome Kimberly Killion to Book Junkie today as my Guest Author celebrating her latest release Highland Dragon that releases from Kensington Publishing on October 06, 2009. (this is actually for sale currently @ Barnes and Nobles as an early release!!)

I am a fly on your wall today, what would I see in the day of Kimberly?
Well, little fly, you have to wake very early. I got up at 4:00 am this morning as I do most mornings because it is quite and I can be a coffee hog, and my children are quite because they are sleeping, and my creative juices are at their peak, and did I mention that it is quite. Ahhhh. I break from 6:00-7:00 to play mom, but once the bus comes, the darlings are gone, and the husband goes away, I get back to it. Right now I’m not working which is a grand thing indeed, but typically I would head off to work myself. Either way, I nap after lunch, and try to write before the family returns. Then comes supper, a couple episodes of Jeopardy or Two and a Half Men, then I write the rest of the evening in my camper beside the garage. Why in a camper you ask? Because it is quiet. J

If someone were writing a story about Kimberly, what type of word would describe you?
Oh my, I would be the funny secondary character who make the reader laugh. So I guess the word would be one of these: hilarious, shocking, or just plain ole ‘bitch’. I have limited patience with stupid people and sometimes I just can’t control what comes out of my mouth.

How do you get started with writing a story (as in, how do you start developing the story, how do you get inspired for it)?Do you start with an outline, synopsis, characters; what is your writing process like?
I have to do A LOT of research prior to writing that opening line. I’m talking a month’s worth. I google, dig, read, read some more until an idea stabs me in the eye. Because I write historical, there was a certain way of life for men and women and I must know my characters before they will tell me about their lives. So I do storyboards and develop flaws in my characters. I give them personally traits like expletives. I interview them and try to figure out their childhood and where they were schooled. The characters usually drive the story after that.

Can you tell us a little about your newest release Highland Dragon?
Here’s a short bit about the story: In a struggle between love and revenge, only one can emerge victorious. Eighteen years after hiding the secret of his betrothed’s lineage, Laird Calin MacLeod is forced to choose between avenging his father’s death and surrendering to the passion he finds in the arms of his enemy’s daughter.

What was your inspiration for Highland Dragon and why 16th Century Scotland?
Oh this is easy…my inspiration was a man in a kilt with a big sword. I like writing in the latter part of the Medieval time period. It is slightly less barbaric to me, plus I enjoy the dialect the Scots might have used in their day to day banter. The country is beautiful to write about as were the people. They fought hard, laughed hard, and loved unconditionally. (Well, they do in my stories.)

If you could cast Akira and Calin for a movie who would play them on screen?
Liv Tyler would play Akira and Gerard Butler (of course) would play my Scottish hero.

Why do you think so many Romance readers love reading about Scottish Highlander’s?
I can’t answer for all readers, but the reason I read and write Scottish characters is because they possess a great deal of pride. They have big hearts and they banter so beautifully with each other.

Did you draw your characters from the personalities in your life?
Only one: Aunt Wanda reminds me of me. She speaks her mind and damns the consequences. I loved writing her character. As for Calin…this man is pure fiction. They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

What was the first romance book you read and how did it effect you?
The Secret by Julie Garwood. It is a spectacular book. I can still envision those characters. I know their names, and can recall the first scene and a bumblebee. It definitely stuck with me and it is because Ms. Garwood has a talent for building believable characters. It took me a long time to learn out to do that and I’m still learning, but I do believe the characters are what make the story a keeper. Nothing else really matters.

If you were not writing, what would you be doing?
Sleeping. No, seriously, I used to scrapbook and take pictures, but most likely I would do what comes easiest for me and that is computer graphics.

For you, what is the hardest part of writing a novel? Concept, Characterization, Plotting, Writing the story, Synopsis/Query letter writing, etc.
I absolutely despise writing the sucknopsis. I’m a pantser, which means I write by the seat of my pants. I find it much more enjoyable to find out what’s going to happen as I write a story. If I plotted it, and then had to sit down and write it, my AADD will flare up. I enjoy researching and can sometimes get lost in it, but that’s part of the process.

Her One Desire was your very first published work, how long did it take you to get published?
I started writing in 1996, but had my second child in 1998 which set me back for 6 years. I got back into writing when my TV broke in 2004. That’s when I joined RWA and my local chapter, Missouri Romance Writers of America, of which I’m now the President. I got involved in critiques groups and learned I was doing it all wrong. I guess I finally figured it out, though there is always something new to learn. So to answer your question: 5 years.

On your site under each of your Books you have a Character listing with pictures of each character, do you usually cast your characters before or after you have started writing? Does it help inspire you and take the story in a different direction?
Yes, I storyboard and do character sheets before I ever start a book. I have to know what they look like, what curse words they say, what their nervous tic is, and so on. In fact, my characters sit on my computer desktop the entire time I write the book. I have to look at them sometimes to figure out what they want me to do with them. And sometimes I simply scold them for being so quiet.

If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
As a person who gets easily bored, I wonder why we don’t see more unusual books. For example aliens landing in Regency London. OK...this has probably been done, but I’m curious to know if readers get frustrated that traditional publishers don’t take more risks and break out of the norm? What are you sick of? Vampires? Ball rooms?

Aloha from Maui.....

Hi guys, please bare with me as I am writing from an Internet Cafe. I am back home visiting my family in Maui and dropped my notebook. It has been up and down since then so my posts will be inconsistent. I am going to try to post my review of Perfection by tonight Hawaii time so don't forget that I have two contests currently running, One for Kris Cook's Perfection as well as According to Jane by Marilyn Brant and both Interviews which are equally fantastic and candid! The links are above. I haven't updated my daily contest site and won't be able to until I get back. It takes too long and there Internet Cafes are a total rip off!

Giveaway & Interview with Kris Cook author of Perfection

Today I am trilled to have author Kris Cook who's first published book, PERFECTION, which has released this month. I first learned of Kris from Shayla Black's site who was giving away a e-book of Kris's release and I have to say completely intrigued since Kris, well Kris is not a woman. I know that may sound prejudice, which at the time I think it was frankly on my part. I had long ago read a romance by a male author (he shall remain nameless), and it was.....I'll be nice and say horrible. Now to be fare I admit if I read something that I don't like from any author I usually won't pick up another book (that being said, it is usually from a new author, not one I have a history reading knowing I enjoy their other works). That being said, I thought I would check out Kris's site and see what PERFECTION is all about since I am always looking for her authors to follow. So.... I bought the e-book from Siren and a new fan was born. It's it nice when you find a winner, a keeper, a book you want all your friends to read because you are just THAT excited. And Perfection is just one of those books that I knew I had to share with all my friends! And the second best thing is that this is just book one in the series!!! I will be posting my review tomorrow so keep an eye out! Now for my Interview with Kris.......................

I would like to Welcome Kris Cook to Book Junkie today as my Guest Author celebrating his latest release Perfection which is book one in the Eternally Three Series that released from siren Publishing on Sept 8th, 2009.

I am a fly on your wall today, what would I see in the day of Kris?
You mean after I get the fly-swatter? Starts with 2 cups of coffee. I’m not human until then. Reading and responding to emails is the next task. Then, looking over what I wrote the day before. Finally, I start on the pages I need to write for the day. A few breaks along the way. Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, etc… Lunch. And so on…

If someone were writing a story about Kris Cook, what type of word would describe you?
I need at least two words: Distractible & Determined

How do you get started with writing a story (as in, how do you start developing the story, how do you get inspired for it)? Do you start with an outline, synopsis, characters; what is your writing process like?
Ideas for me come from a variety of places: the news media, entertainment, religion, history. Once I get the seed concept, I talk it out with author friends and critique partners. Is this a good idea…? If an idea makes it past them, then I work on the big elements: Who is the story about? Where is it set? What’s the conflict? What’s the goal and motivation? Next, a storyboard. Yep, it’s tough but necessary. Shayla Black taught me the process. Then, the synopsis. I hate writing them, but they are a great way to catch holes in a plot. Finally, I get down to writing. With paranormal stories with world issues, I have another step—writing down the rules of the world. And then there is the step for series. I set up the plot items that will span multiple books in another document. Am I rambling?

Can you tell us a little about your newest release Perfection?
This book took some time. I had a concept about immortals needing human’s lifeforce where the transfer occurred similar to the laws of electricity: positive, negative, conduit. I also wanted to blend myths from Europe and the Middle East, though my angels, demons, jinn and ifrit are very different from those myths there are some elements I kept in place: wings, horns, smoke, fire.

Why Erotic Romance & why a ménage?
It’s built around the concept of the story line. Also, I am a fan of the genre.

If you could cast Micki, Jared and Bradley for a movie who would play them on screen?
Anne Hathaway, Clive Owen (with long hair), Viggo Mortensen

The ladies dominate the Erotic Romance Genre as, why do you think there aren’t a lot of male Erotic Romance authors?
Since the genre’s main readers are female, there is likely an innate ability for the female author to connect with them. As a male, I work hard to ensure my stories have complexity an d clarity, emotional depth and sensual truthfulness that hopefully appeals to women on multiple levels. I do have female beta-readers that are absolutely essential for that process.

Did you draw your characters from the personalities in your life?
Not really. As a character really begins to come to life for me, they take on a unique personality that is all their own. Sounds crazy, but that’s how it works for me.

When can we expect to see Captivation, book two in the Eternally Three Series and can you give up a little heads up about what it will be about/characters?
I am working on it now, but a release date isn’t set. Readers are going to learn more about the Alliance, the Dark, and the Bloodline. The heroes and heroine of book 2 and book 3 were introduced in book 1. You will be seeing more of David along the way. Am I being a tease?

What do you think is the hardest part about maintaining a series?
I want to make sure that each book stands alone. I don’t want any story to be a repeat of a previous book. Keeping continuity in the series is also very important.

What else do you have in the works?
Three To Play, a contemporary erotic ménage romance will be coming out this winter with Siren.
Have you considered writing within any other genre?
Currently, I’m focused on my romance writing, but am intrigued with the fantasy genre with romantic elements… but that is for another day.

What was the first romance book you read and how did it effect you?
It was one of my grandmother’s Harlequin books. The title had something about a witch, so being a nut for magic, I read it. I liked the story very much. I was about ten years old.

If you were not writing, what would you be doing?
I’d have to be somewhere around publishing. I’m in love with storytelling.

For you, what is the hardest part of writing a novel? Concept, Characterization, Plotting, Writing the story, Synopsis/Query letter writing, etc.
All of the above. Every part of the process has its challenges. I’ve been told by very successful writers that the key is not to stop, keep moving forward.

Perfection is your very first published work, how long did it take you to get published?
I finalled in Passionate Ink’s Stroke of Midnight two years ago. Several rejections later, it found a home with Siren.

Do you usually cast your characters (a mental picture) before or after you have started writing? Does it help inspire you and take the story in a different direction?
I get photos from magazines and the Internet to inspire me.

If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
What do you like most (and least) about the story?

Guest Author Marilyn Brant & Giveaway!!

I am over the moon excited about today...... why you ask. Well, I have Marilyn Brant as my Guest Author. She asked me to read her ARC According to Jane, which I did gladly and was thoroughly impressed and captivated.... resulting in me now being a die-hard Marilyn Brant fan for life. As I am sure that you will be too! You can read my review HERE of According to Jane.

I would like to Welcome Marilyn Brant to Book Junkie today as my Guest Author celebrating her debut novel According to Jane that releases from Kensington on October 01, 2009.
And, Brande, I’d like to thank you for inviting me! It’s an honor to be here with you and your readers today.

1. I am a fly on your wall today, what would I see in the day of Marilyn?
If you’re a fly, you’d definitely see how very messy my office is! There are many piles of papers, stacks of teetering books, coffee packets, gum, a number of water bottles… And you’d see me in that messy office for hours and hours of the day. I start by checking email right after my son leaves to school in the morning. I then work on any publicity or website projects that need to get done, visit blogs of writing friends and/or make phone calls, drive to the post office, etc. All of those writing-related things. Then, I check email again and have a snack while procrastinating... Finally, usually by 10am, I get down to real writing. I’m a very slow writer, and I work chronologically through the book, so I don’t move onto the next page until the one I’m on seems to flow moderately well. I break for lunch or for anything important--calls from family members, close friends or writing colleagues--but, mostly, I stay focused on the book until my son returns home from school. After that, it’s homework for him and after school sports or playdates, etc. Plus, fixing dinner and the occasional household chore. (I really avoid those!) A few times per week I manage to slip in a visit to the gym for a workout, but I’m not nearly as consistent as I should be. When my husband returns from work, we all have dinner together and talk, some nights we watch a TV shows (I personally like “Castle,” “Glee” and “Supernatural”--our son doesn’t watch those with us, but he’ll join us for “American Idol”). After they both go to bed, I work on writing-related stuff or manuscript pages again. Usually until about 1am. The “glamorous” life of a writer, huh?! And one of these days, I’m going to clean my office. Really.

2. If someone were writing a story about Marilyn, what type of word would describe you? Inquisitive. I’ve been told by a few people that I’m “more curious about things than anyone” they’ve ever met. I like that!

3. How do you get started with writing a story (as in, how do you start developing the story, how do you get inspired for it)? Do you start with an outline, synopsis, characters; what is your writing process like?
I’m primarily a character-driven writer. However, I do a basic plot outline and a character study simultaneously because the kinds of main characters you have influence the kinds of storylines you need to write in order to challenge them. And, conversely, the plot points that get thrown at a character are handled in wildly different ways by the varying personality types. So, I need to know the basic traits, histories and attitudes of my heroine(s), then I’m able to plot out what mess she’d find herself in, then the kinds of secondary characters who would most help or thwart her growth and, finally, her actual speaking voice and manner of being in the world. Once I know her story and I know how she talks and relates to others, then I just let her narrate her tale--one page at a time with, maybe, two pages written in an hour--from the beginning of the book until the end.

4. Can you tell us a little about your newest release According to Jane?
Of course. According to Jane is the story of a modern woman named Ellie who gets dating advice from the ghost of Jane Austen. It begins one day in her high-school English class, just as Ellie’s teacher is assigning Pride & Prejudice. From nowhere, she hears a quiet “tsk” of disapproval aimed at the antics of the cute bad boy who has been teasing her. The author’s ghost takes it upon herself to stay in Ellie’s mind, offering up her own brand of Regency-era wisdom in regards to romance. Years and boyfriends come and go, but Ellie has a lot to learn about love. And, possibly, even Jane may benefit from a new insight or two.

5. What was your inspiration and WHY Jane Austen?
I remember the moment I first thought of the story idea: I was sitting in an RWA National Conference workshop (Dallas 2004) presented by Eloisa James. She was discussing the borrowing of classic plots from famous authors, as she’d done with Shakespeare. She asked us to think about which classical lit books we’d read and the authors whose characters and storylines we’d gravitate toward. I immediately thought of Jane Austen, of course, my all-time favorite author. Then I began asking myself questions--what would happen if a modern woman had a Pride & Prejudice-like experience? And what if Jane herself were involved in the plot somehow? Then: Oh! What if Jane could give dating advice? I thought of how much I would’ve loved for her to have shared some words of wisdom with me back when I was single… But then I pondered the idea that perhaps, Jane could be biased against someone in the same way her most famous heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, had been prejudiced against Darcy… And this premise took hold of my mind and continued developing from there.

6. Let’s talk Sam and Ellie, the main character’s in According to Jane, why stretch their love story 20 years?
This is an excellent question, Brande! I spent a lot of time mulling it over as I was writing the novel, and there are several reasons for my decision. For one, it’s because the book is about one woman’s relationship “odyssey”--and I meant that very much in the Homeric sense. Just as Odysseus had to journey on through two decades of challenges, frustrations and danger, Ellie is traveling through a modern woman’s relationship version of this before she’s able to “return home.” There may not have been the literal sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, but there were bad boyfriends, nasty schoolmates, unkind family members, etc. By narrowly avoiding one bad choice, Ellie sometimes ended up with a different but equally bad problem. She steered off course more than once and fought to survive the emotional warfare of love. There was no way for her to “get where she really wanted to go,” until she was able to do it humbly and honestly. The idea of Jane as a parallel goddess to Athena was also appealing to me J. In a much simpler, pure-storytelling sense, though, the kinds of changes that needed to take place between Ellie and Sam (and also between Ellie and her big sister) would NOT have occurred realistically in a year or two. Both of those relationship arcs needed significantly longer to develop. Even in Austen’s Persuasion, the main characters must be apart for nearly eight years before the heroine is emotionally ready to be with her hero. A woman is not the same person at 19 or 20 that she is when she’s approaching 30 and knows something more of life… In that way, too, the longer timeframe was a requirement. Additionally, there are smaller details (i.e., Sam going away to medical school), that put the romantic story on a longer time track than usual.

7. If you could cast Sam and Ellie for a movie who would play them on screen?
Ack! I never know who to choose for this! Both would have to be actors who can convincingly play a range from teen to early thirty-something. So, I think they’d have to really be in their mid-twenties. I’ve always imagined Sam to be someone like a young John Cusack--the way he was in “The Sure Thing”--smirky, clever and slowly discovering that he wanted something and someone rather different from what he’d expected. As for Ellie, an American Emma Watson-type, perhaps, with the intensity and intelligence of a Hermione, but not the confidence or outspokenness. But, if According to Jane were turned into a movie, I’d happily trust these decisions to the casting director and just enjoy the simply watching the film J.

8. Why do you think it is that Jane Austen “never goes out of style”?
I think it’s because her characterizations are unbelievably universal and timeless. She had a tremendous gift for really seeing people--the way they acted in private vs. in public, the way they revealed themselves through dialogue, the way they handled stress and insecurity. She recognized the range and depth of human behavior and was a genius at showing it to her readers. Plus, since she didn’t spend time dwelling on the specificities of clothing or the political climate, her books have an intimate feel to them. When talking about promising relationships or annoying neighbors, there is not much difference between the conversations of Austen’s time and those we could be having with friends or family today. I think that’s what keeps her work so contemporary--whether it’s read or performed in the 1800s or at any time afterward.

9. Did you draw your characters from the personalities in your life?
Some of my characters have a smattering of qualities and personality traits drawn from people I know, but I do a LOT of blending. It’s incredibly important to me to make my characters unique. To do that, I feel I need to give them a range of quirks and some very distinctive behavior/thought/speaking patterns. The real people in my life are certainly interesting, but none of us (myself included!) are entirely “fiction-worthy.” And I’m glad. I wouldn’t want to be a real-life character. I wouldn’t want to be oddly specific enough for fiction. And I sure wouldn’t want those closest to me to be riddled with the stresses and insecurities prominently featured in the secondary characters I’ve created. So, while I’ll happily pluck a trait or two from someone I know to add to the character mix I’m making, I have to do much more to any character to make him/her novel-ready than merely copy someone from my everyday life.

10. What are you currently working on?
I just finished editorial revisions on my second women’s fiction book (still untitled, but my editor and I are narrowing down ideas). It’s a modern fairytale about three suburban moms who shake up their marriages and their lives when one of them asks her friends a somewhat shocking question… I’ve also just begun drafting my third novel, which is just at the proposal stage now, but I’m excited by the possibility of it. More on that one later!

11. What was the first romance book you read and how did it effect you?Technically, it was Cinderella and the various fairytales…but I remember reading gothic romances by Victoria Holt and Phyllis A. Whitney when I was in junior high. I thought they were “mysteries” then, so I was as intent on solving the puzzle as I was on the resolution of the romantic plot. Years later, I read Jennifer Crusie’s Crazy for You and just fell in love with contemporary humorous romances. I devoured them.

12. If you were not writing, what would you be doing?
Traveling--I love to see new places in the world. I’d like to think I’d also be exercising more, but I’m afraid I use the excuse, “Oh, I can’t work out today, I’ve got to write,” a little too gleefully J. Extra time probably wouldn’t make me love the elliptical machine any more.

13. Do you use your OWN experiences?
Absolutely. There are a few of my real-life experiences peppered throughout According to Jane. However, I use far fewer of my own experiences than I do my own emotions. It’s not very important, in my opinion, that a writer live though any particular situation in order to write about it. She should be familiar with some of the corresponding emotions, though. For instance, I never went to prom in high school. But I did go to high-school dances, and I was asked to be the date of someone on the Homecoming Court in college one year. What I really knew about the prom experience was less about the details (I could make those up!) than about the emotions of a girl who might’ve felt disconnected and marginal at an event full of pomp and pretension. I think anyone who’s ever been in a room full of people and felt unbelievably alone, but still had to pretend to be having a joyous time, could channel those emotions and write from that place.

14. For you, what is the hardest part of writing a novel?
Concept, Characterization, Plotting, Writing the story, Synopsis/Query letter writing, etc. Ugh, the synopsis, especially if it has to be written in advance. I can write a fairly decent one once the book is finished, but it’s a challenge beforehand. For me, the most interesting elements of the novel emerge while actually writing the story. I wouldn’t want to be held to a book that followed my initial synopsis exactly.

15. This is your very first published work, how long did it take you to get published?
A long, long time! I started writing fiction seriously in the summer of 2000. I wrote 4 unpublished manuscripts--all complete novels--before I started work on According to Jane in 2004. After drafting and revising it, I sent it out to literary agents, and I signed with mine in July of 2006. I revised again, under her direction, and we sent the book to editors that fall. It was a Golden Heart® finalist and won my category in 2007, but it still hadn’t sold to NY. After some further editorial feedback, I restructured the book so it was no longer written in strict chronology, and my agent submitted this new version to editors. The wonderful John Scognamiglio at Kensington made us a 2-book offer just twelve days later, in April 2008. Production time was a year and a half… So, it took a full nine years after I started writing my first novel to see one published.

16. If you could work with any author who would it be?
You mean aside from Jane Austen?! In truth, as much as I respect many, many authors, I’m not a huge fan of group projects. I’m not really tempted to write a book WITH anyone. However, I’d be delighted to collaborate on an anthology where each of us had one of three or four stories with a related theme. That could be really enjoyable. I love women’s fiction/romance authors like Sue Miller, Elizabeth Berg, Anne Tyler, Laurie Viera Rigler, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Maria Geraci and Pamela Redmond Satran so, if I were ever fortunate enough to have my stories share an anthology with any of theirs, I’d be thrilled.

17. If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?What was the most memorable scene you’ve ever read in a book and why did it stick with you?
Thanks again for having me here today! It was very exciting to get to visit Book Junkie!!

Review: Dancing with Ana by Nicole Barker & Giveaway!

Dancing with Ana by Nicole Barker is gripping as you travel into the world of Beth Baxter and Jeremy Duscana, two best friends who grew up together, neighbors, surfing buddies and now young lovers. Sounds perfect doesn't it? Well, as we all know most pretty packages aren't so pretty on the inside and they are usually hiding something. And Beth is surely hiding something. She and her three best friends are on a diet, they looked up their ideal weights on the net and have set their sites on the lowest weight possible within their range. Problem is that with extreme exercise and no eating Beth is starving herself. She also has a hard time dealing with the guilt that comes along with telling lies to her mom as well as Jeremy about why she is losing weight. But when Jeremy finds her on the track field passed out he can't take it any longer. He assumes that Beth is dealing with self image issues since her parents divorce, which is true but she also has some anger issues that most teens deal with at this time in their lives. Also worth a mention is the appearance of Beth's best friends who are also in cahoots with her on their "diet", namely Rachel. Rachel lives a pretty miserable life, with a father who left long ago and drunk mother and sketchy and simply creepy boyfriends that her mother lugs around. Rachel too is able to is able to find happiness in the love and respect of her new boyfriend. I have to say it was nice to see Beth's support system, especially in Jeremy who is head over heels in love with her and her mother who takes notice right away at what is going on with her daughter. She may not suspect an eating disorder but her concern is comforting and genuine. Beth and Jeremy I find are two central characters who you want to root for!

Review: Master of the Mountain by Cherise Sinclair

I loved it! Every word, every page, every moment until the end! So that is my review in a nutshell........ OK I can do better than that, but seriously a melt your panties right off, intriguing love story that forces you to turn the pages until the wee hours of the night just to get to the end! How about that!

Not convinced? I will warn you if you aren't interested in a little BDSM then MASTER OF THE MOUNTAIN by Cherise Sinclair isn't for you. It wasn't hard core, but I would consider it moderate at best. Well let's start with a larger than average female ( I do love a "real" woman and not a beanpole), Rebbecca who is talked into attending a swinger's weekend in a remote cabin with her boyfriend. Apparently he has been a swinger for years and meeting with this group unbeknownst to her. For the sake of their bland and less than thrilling sex life she agrees, reluctantly I might add, to go with him in hopes that it will spark up their relationship. Poor Becca is really thrown for a loop, two actually. The first, she is completely and totally 100% unprepared for joining the swingers and when her boyfriend joins in with his old pals and she walks in with him and another woman she knows her relationship is over for good. And second ever since she walked in to the main cabin she was pulled towards the mysterious owner behind the desk, Logan. And let me tell you that Logan is a delicious specimen, but damaged in so many ways from his time at war. Nightmares plague Logan's nights and become a harsh reality as he can't control himself enough to wake up, so he is torn up inside about hurting his brother physically during one horrific episode. He knows that a woman will never be a perm ante fixture in his bed, too afraid that if he let himself fall in love he could end up killing her and not even knowing it. Becca and Logan can't help but gravitate to each other and he could care less that she doesn't sport a supermodels figure! Becca still insecure and not too sure as to whether to believe him or not gets involved with him. The girl can't help herself and that sexy beast Logan is just too hard to resist. This is where the BDSM comes in, as Logan is a Dom and won't accept anything less than a sub which he find out Becca is a true sub. The sex is hot, hot, hot and just as your sure our HEA is on the horizon....... WHAM! You are blindsided by Logan's rejection of Becca which makes you want to cry. She is convinced that he is rejecting her because of her body, but he cares deeply for her and is falling in love, and just couldn't live with himself if he harmed her the way he did his brother. Or worse, kills her. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Logan win Becca back and with a heavy sigh finished the last chapter.

Review: Shoulda Been a Cowboy by Lorelei James

Shoulda Been a Cowboy by Lorelei James is book 7 in the Rough Riders Series telling the story of Cam McKay and Domini Katzinski. Cam is a wounded Vet physically and mentally damaged, hiding all his pain on the inside afraid to confide in his family or friends about what happened in the war that resulted in the removal of his lower leg. Cam has been half in love with Domini since the moment he saw her, a strong but quite woman who came to this country with a Church Group many years ago only to end up pining after a man who she believes won't giver her the time of day the last two years after a shared hot and steamy kiss. Afraid to make the first move and a little timid by the rough Cam, Domini has a little liquid courage with the help of Keely, Cam's sister and just makes her feelings known to him. The problem is that once that first step has been made Cam can't let her go, he wants Domini for keeps no matter what the cost. Domini on the other hand feels broken herself. Years ago something was taken from her without her consent and she feels like in incomplete woman, not able to offer any man, much less Cam what she feels he will eventually come to desire if they fell in love and got married. Their lust and pure love for each other is so evident as you turn the pages you can't help root for the two to get past their problems, not to mention the steamy sex scenes and lite BDSM. Domini's character is strong and not the weak little mousy woman she is perceived to be, forcing Cam to come out of his shell as well, and letting her see his wounded stump and prosthesis. Showing her undying love for him and the fact she sees him as a man and not less because of his leg or lack there of. Despite the great love story there is always drama with the McKay boys and that comes with Nadia, Domini's best friend and past roommate brings her struggles with her abusive ex into the picture. Domini cares deeply for Nadia's son Anton. A tragedy occurs that affects both Domini and Cam personally and very deeply. As a result their lives take on a new spin cementing them together as Anton plays a larger role in both their lives as well as a possible new love story developing in the future for the McKay's/West family. Fun, fast paced and oh so much naughty sex it will be hard to put this bad boy down until you read the very last word. I think one of my favorites of the McKay boys, it was pure joy to root on Cam to get past his loss and move on with Domini and their new life together. Keely's story is next and I just can't wait!!!!

SNIPPET:"Soldier Cameron McKay has found his niche, and it ain’t ropin’ steers and wearin’ spurs. His deputy sheriff job, plus battle injuries that ended his military career, keep him right where he wants to be: Off the ranch and away from his family’s pity. His darkest war memories are on lockdown, leaving him skeptical he’ll ever find a woman who wants a man who’s less than whole.
Domini Katzinski has had to control every aspect of her life since age eleven, when she was orphaned in the Ukraine. Watching others’ relationships crumble has convinced her to focus on the short-term and find a take-charge man to whom she can relinquish total sexual control. Cam fits the bill: gorgeous, with a brooding vulnerability no one else seems to see. Plus, he has his own handcuffs.
Once Cam gets over his surprise that sweet, shy Domini wants to be dominated, he is back to issuing orders. Their passion is as hot as a rocket-propelled grenade—and if Domini has her way, it’s a one-shot deal. Cam wants more, and launches a full-out sensual assault…until tragedy strikes, forcing him to change tactics as he tries to keep past demons from blowing their future together all to hell…"

SNIPPET: "The marriage of Marc Antony and Cleopatra is one of the greatest love stories of all time, a tale of unbridled passion with earth-shaking political consequences. Feared and hunted by the powers in Rome, the lovers choose to die by their own hands as the triumphant armies of Antony’s vengeful rival, Octavian, sweep into Egypt. Their three orphaned children are taken in chains to Rome, but only two—the ten-year-old twins Selene and Alexander—survive the journey. Delivered to the household of Octavian’s sister, the siblings cling to each other and to the hope that they will return one day to their rightful place on the throne of Egypt. As they come of age, they are buffeted by the personal ambitions of Octavian’s family and court, by the ever-present threat of slave rebellion, and by the longings and desires deep within their own hearts. The fateful tale of Selene and Alexander is brought brilliantly to life in Cleopatra’s Daughter. Recounted in Selene’s youthful and engaging voice, it introduces a compelling cast of historical characters:

Octavia: the emperor Octavian’s kind and compassionate sister, abandoned by Marc Antony for Cleopatra
Livia: Octavian’s bitter and jealous wife
Marcellus: Octavian’s handsome, flirtatious nephew and heir-apparent
Tiberius: Livia’s sardonic son and Marcellus’s great rival for power
Juba: Octavian’s ever-watchful aide, whose honored position at court has far-reaching effects on the lives of the young Egyptian royals

Selene’s narrative is animated by the concerns of a young girl in any time and place —the possibility of finding love, the pull of friendship and family, and the pursuit of her unique interests and talents. While coping with the loss of both her family and her ancestral kingdom, Selene must find a path around the dangers of a foreign land. Her accounts of life in Rome are filled with historical details that vividly capture both the glories and horrors of the time. She dines with the empire’s most illustrious poets and politicians, witnesses the creation of the Pantheon, and navigates the colorful, crowded marketplaces of the city where Roman-style justice is meted out with merciless authority.
Based on meticulous research, Cleopatra’s Daughter is a fascinating portrait of Imperial Rome and of the people and events of this glorious and tumultuous period in human history. Emerging from the shadows of history, Selene, a young woman of irresistible charm and preternatural intelligence, will capture your heart. "

Tame Horses Wild Hearts by Alison Paige

Tame Horses, Wild Hearts by Alison Paige
captured me first with it's humor and second by the love story of Kate Mather's and Joe Garity. Joe, our ever alpha, sexy as hell hero is an ex-cop now Bodyguard hired by her estranged birth father who has been receiving letters from Kate's stalker and self proclaimed "soon to be son in law". That alone gave me the chills, but Kate believes or rather likes to refer to him as her secret admirer, unknowing of ALL the photos and the notes that have gone to her father, everyone seems to be keeping things from her. Kate is a strong willed woman, no BS, no whining and absolutely NO apologies for her lust for casual sex. The woman is confident and makes no excuses for her desires. And with the arrival of Joe to Kate's City Camp program, she tried to not show her desire for the man too much while she scolds him for taking an underprivileged kids place in at the summer horse camp. Only to prove that he is a complete wreck on the horse. Joe can't deny his attraction for Kate either, and through the pages their relationship has some serious ups and downs as she learns his real reasons for being there and his lies. Clayton, Kate's step brother and the kids in the camp add some humor and drama along the way which make for an enjoyable read. Kate's secret admirer is getting angrier and braver as the threats get deadly and dangerous, but half way through the book his identity was easy to figure out. All in all an enjoyable read throughout even though I knew who the stalker was I couldn't stop until I hit my HEA ending!

4 STARS - A PAGE TURNER, BRING ON THE SEQUEL

SNIPPET: "Kate Mathers has a secret admirer, though her adopted family calls him a stalker. Either way it’s a bizarre idea considering she’s never managed to have a lasting relationship with any man and now one’s obsessed with her? It’s hard for Kate to believe. But when her bodyguard, Joe Garity, arrives the dangers become all too real. Either she’ll lose her heart or her life. And the choice isn’t as easy as it sounds. Joe Garity is a human wrecking ball when it comes to relationships. Whenever things get serious he manages to destroy them. But when his latest job forces Joe into a pretend relationship with Kate Mathers, Joe wonders if his wrecking ball tendencies were all in his head. The chemistry between them is like nothing he’s ever known, but if Joe doesn’t figure out who’s stalking Kate soon, her next birthday may be her last "

Review: Graceful Mischief by Melinda Barron

Graceful Mischief is the second in the Graceful Series by Melinda Barron and features the much loved Grace and Toffer from book one Graceful Submission, you can read my review HERE. I so adored their love for each other so raw and pure and frankly it was nice to see that Grace was a "Full-figured Heroine". So many times I read about how perfect and thin and beautiful our heroine's are, not that I am complaining, but it is nice to read about one's that are a little more diverse physically as well. Below in the Snippet I believe it tells you all you need to know about the story, but when it doesn't tell you is that if you haven't read Graceful Submission you too can experience the thrills Grace & Toffer's relationship as it has developed over a few years time. Filled with love and passion, they have a Dom/s relationship and explore all the aspect of a BDSM lifestyle. Toffer wants nothing more than to please his wife and to satisfy her beyond her wildest dreams. And this one night, Halloween be gives her a challenge, make it to the center of the maze before he catches her and she gets her treat. Her treat being that since it is Halloween, a night that they can go out to the clubs and not worry about anyone recognizing Toffer since he is well phone celebrity. But Toffer catches her and fulfills a secret fantasy of Toffer's and Grace's as well, for him to see his wife with another man giving her pleasure. A trusted friend of Toffer's and fellow Dom. The sex is steam and just makes you ache for more, more, more! Their new mystery man is a sexy and strong Dom who takes Grace and Toffer's relationship to a whole new level, I couldn't get enough! Don't miss Book 3 in the series Undercover Submission!!!

5 STARS- LOVED IT! COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

SNIPPET: "Ontheir third Halloween together, Toffer and Grace are in England, where Toffer is filming a movie about Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. They are staying, with the rest of the cast and crew, in an old castle complete with a moat and a maze. Grace, who is putting the finishing touches on her latest novel, thinks her Master is taking her to a fancy restaurant in London so they can be alone together on Halloween. She puts on a beautiful new dress. Hidden underneath is the sexy corset her Master bought in London a few days earlier.
The trick is on Grace, though, when her Master takes her to the maze and tells her to strip down to her corset. A costume party is going on just hundreds of feet away, and Toffer plans on giving Grace a head start, then hunting her through the maze. If he catches her, she’s awarded the trick, and he gets to have his way with her in the maze. There’s always the chance that anyone could walk up and see Grace being topped. If she makes it to the middle without him catching her, she gets the treat, dinner and dessert.
Only Toffer’s not playing fair, and the treat’s a trick too. But with what he has in mind, even if she loses, she wins."

About Me

My Photo
Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
