Review: Mercury Falls by Robert Kroese

Calling all angels and demons, the end of the world has been planned, all the T's crossed all the I's dotted, the plans are set and we are ready to begin the annihilation of the world and human kind.... again. Come on, everything is right on schedule, all we need is the Antichrist. Who BTW is still living in his mama's attic. Karl Grissom is a film school dropout who is 37 and is the Antichrist, the man to end the world, all the arrangements have been made, ready, set, go..... time to end the world! Not so fast says our heroine Christine Temetri, she is a human reporter for a religious news magazine, The Banner, and has stumbled upon the Mercury. He is an angel who is completely blasé about the fact the Atnichrist has been named and plans are set to end the world. The angel would rather hang out and eat his rice crispy squares. He could really care less and really doesn't want any part of it. Mission: Christine must galvanize Mercury into helping her stop the madness. There are angles and demons on both sides of this war, ones who want the end of the world to happen and ones who don't all for their own reasons. When they circumvent the plans to take out the Antichrist Karl, they piss Lucifer off making themselves a target as well. The situations they find themselves in on their journey were hilarious, always with the quick witted and tenacious Christine and apathetic Mercury so many the story flowed smoothly through their adventures and clever banter. What I did love about this book besides to cohesive storyline and entertaining characters was the footnotes! I loved that there wasn't a serious bone in this books spine, all humor, sarcasm and unrelenting brilliantly contrived characters. I wanted to root for Christine and Mercury, heck I wanted to be with them on this quest. Robert Kroese's self published Mercury Falls is a work of art, just full of well developed characters, witty dialog that will make you laugh out load and is just plain and simple a story that is timeless. The end of the world silly. We see it all the time in movies and books, but I have never laughed so much at the prospect, planning and folly that goes into completing the task. Bravo!

Synopsis: " The world is ending. Again.Years of covering the antics of End Times cults for The Banner, a religious news magazine, have left Christine Temetri not only jaded but seriously questioning her career choice.
That is, until she meets Mercury, an anti-establishment angel who’s frittering his time away whipping up batches of Rice Krispy Treats and perfecting his ping-pong backhand instead of doing his job: helping to orchestrate Armageddon. With the end near and angels and demons debating the finer political points of the Apocalypse, Christine and Mercury accidentally foil an attempt to assassinate one Karl Grissom, a thirty-seven-year-old film school dropout about to make his big break as the Antichrist.
Now, to save the world, she must negotiate the byzantine bureaucracies of Heaven and Hell and convince the apathetic Mercury to take a stand, all the while putting up with the obnoxious mouth-breathing Antichrist."

Thanks for the wonderful review, Brande! Glad you enjoyed it.

I wouldn't mind at all if something like this showed up on Amazon, by the way. :)

About Me

Brande
I am a working mom with an addiction to coffee, chocolate, and books.. I read an average 3 to 4 books a week to escape reality. I have setup this site to organize my own thoughts and help others when choosing what to read. Since I can be a dimwit at times I decided to keep a record of the books I read. This record turned into reviews so I would remember if I liked the book I forgot I had read. I am not particularily funny and my grammer sucks so please don’t expect much. Basically I don’t know jack about many things, but I do know what I like in a novel and what makes me want to spend my money on an author.
