As I have a bad habit of starting a series with the latest and greatest I am usually going back to the authors site to find out there earlier works while I wait for the next release. I was so pleasantly surprised when I first found Lisa Marie Rice while searching for something to read on Booksonboard.com. And yes, this was #2 in the Midnight Series. Some habits are hard to break I guess. But since I thought that this book was a fun fast read I did read the prior release Midnight Run... and the 3rd in the Series, Midnight Angel. But as I was looking for something fun to start the other night, like reading 4-5 books at a time isn't enough, I scanned to my e-reader and thought, what the hell.....and that is where Midnight Man comes into play. I am a newer fan of Lisa Marie Rice and she didn't fail to suck me in again. The story is about Suzanne Barron, who is an interior designer that has fixed up an older warehouse in a not so pleasant part of town only to rent out one of the renovated apartment/offices to a mysterious hotty by the name of John Huntingdon, who BTW is a former Navy SEAL and black opps...... and ahhh bad ass! The attraction is instant but they keep things toned down and all business. Well, for about a day, when John takes the beautiful Suzanne out to dinner the um thank her and talk some business about her lack of security she is under the impression that this is ONLY a business dinner. Wrong, John has other plans right from the get go and starts seducing her in the restaurant, only to have her up against the wall outside her apartment door in a very hot and sexy encounter. John is addicted to her, you can feel it, this tough man who has known so much evil that comes with being black opps that LMR really makes you fall in love with this guy no matter how tactless he kind of seems in his seduction. Suzanne is attacked in her apartment, someone wants her dead as this is no random robbery, only to have John rescue her and whisk her away to his cabin where he knows that she will be safe and he can protect her until they find out why and who is trying to kill her. Suzanne is great, she is funny and sassy and a perfect match for John's rough guy persona. While in the cabin Suzanna makes a disturbing discovery and knows who is trying to kill her, unbeknownst to her this individual has already had one of her best friends and colleges murdered. I think that their bonding in the cabin was adorable, as it was Christmas time and with Suzanna and all her tradition and John with, well the lack of any, the way he realized he was falling in love with her and just wanted to make her happy was sexy and heartwarming all at the same time. I say these are a must if you are into a little mystery with your romance, not to mention all the hot and steaming love scenes that will NOT disappoint. The ending broke my heart with the direction it took, only to conclude with me wanting to know more about these character's lives. Going back Midnight Run and Midnight Angel were just as fabulous and for anyone who loves a series this is a keeper.
SNIPPET: "Interior decorator Suzanne Barron's new tenant is the most dangerously sexy man she's ever met. Navy Commander John Huntington, a former SEAL (aka 'Midnight Man') works best under cover of darkness. Within hours of meeting him, Suzanne has wild, no-holds barred sex with John, then panics at the depth of her passionate response to such a powerful and dangerous warrior. Suzanne doesn't do sex like that. John is definitely someone she needs to avoid for her own peace of mind. But when killers come for her, Suzanne known she can turn to only one man. John will guard and protect her body. But who will guard and protect her body against John?"
